anyone find Pericles's animation weird?

To me it looks like Pericles is sort of stumbling around with his hands out because he can't see with his helmet on.

What are u talking about? The animation is really cool!!! And have u seen the sword he uses when at war with him???

Pericles' greeting is interesting, but my favourites are still the Russian leaders, all three of them. Peter's exaggerated bow is dripping with sarcasm (he also glances at you in disdain before he makes eye contact and bows), and as Stalin salutes you, he grimmaces very faintly, if you pay close attention. As for Catherine, she's just awesome.

So yeah, Pericles' greeting is interesting, but not the most entertaining by a long way, IMO.

I think he's telling his troops where they will be dining tonight, to use that meme. It is cool, but I wouldn't like to see it every time. For some reason I like Hammurabi's greet animation. Fits the music perhaps.

Yeah, Hammurabi's is great! Definitely my favourite greeting of the new leaders. Boudica's stretching really annoys me though. My other pet peeve is Joao's slightly protruding tongue when he's cautious.

It's sort of grand. I like it too.

Pericles is obviously directing someone off to the side and behind you. It could be the local amateur theatre group, but I'm pretty sure it's his soldiers.

Then he lifts his helmet to talk to you.

It's hardly confusing.

I thought Pericles' animation was really cool. In fact, the BTS animations have all been pretty good for the most part.

I also like Pacal's exaggeratted scream of rage when you deny his demands.

Pacal freaks me out. The scariest part is when he offers or accepts a trade deal - while he's making aggressive grabbing motions with his hands, his eyes look pretty frightening!

yeah, Pacal is kinda creepy with him being Mr. Grabby Hands and all that. I chuckle at Pericles. I took it as he is giving orders, but it also does look like he can't see a bloody thing in that "spitoon" on his head. (I know it is a battle helmet....)

Hammurabi has a lot of neat little details. When he's angry, he has an eye twitch. When you accept a deal with him, he adopts a very greedy look.

Pericles' animation is the best so far!!! You just interupt him, he's busy, and when he acknowledge you, well, he puts his affairs aside and talk with you. It's great, its real life.

Pericles was supposedly a great orator. I thought the handwaving was supposed to be flourishes as he's giving his speech to you.

I was a bit nonplussed by Pericles the first couple of times I saw him, but now I'm used to it and like the animations.

I love Gilgamesh, Boudica, and Joao the most, they all have great music and great animations IMO.

I also like the start of Lincoln's. It's like he's thinking of something far beyond my mere comprehension.

Oh, and Justinian's music is awesome, gives a real sense of power, don't you think?

I think Hammurabi is the best of the bunch, both in animation and appearance. He's always been my favourite of the Civ regulars, so I'm happy he turned out so well.

Lincoln's "accept a deal"-animation is just priceless!

Indeed.

I like some of the animations because to me they seem to reflect some real personality quirks or achievements of that leader in real life. For instance, my interpretation of Pericles' animation is that he's giving orders on where to set up defences to protect Athens from the Spartans, because historically he went to war and focused intirely on protecting the city.

People also often criticize Lincoln's animation, but that too reflects his real personality. Something a lot of people may not know about Lincoln is that for much of his life he was *extremely* depressed.

His mother died of a terrible illness when he was very young, and he always felt awkward and ugly. When he was a young man his friends basically had him on a suicide watch, where they stayed with him in his house and would not let him out of their sight for very long.

As president, he felt like the blood of the civil war was all on his hands, and that tore him up. There are records of people going into the white house to meet with lincoln to find him in the exact position he is in at the beginning of the animation (head on hand), and that when Lincoln saw they were there, he tried to put on a smile to hid his greif.

Just something to think about when looking at leader animations.

Pericles' animation is my favorite, it's the most... well, in depth one, meaning he doesn't just sit there moving his head sometimes, also whenever he offers you a trade and you accept while he has his helmet on it will magically rise up quickly while he turns toward you

It looks to me like he's commanding forces or something. I mean his helemt is down when he's doing that, he puts it up to speak with you.

I agree, I also like it. Much better than the standard nod.

I think that's it too - he's shouting commands at some soldiers and then pulls back his helmet to talk to you. And I also like it.
