I was wondering if one (or more) of you BTS uberninjas could please learn me corporations. I haven't wrapped my brain around properly leveraging them and it is hindering my plans to take over the world.

Today I founded Mining Inc. Even though I had a open borders agreement with Pericles, I couldn't open a field office. I am assuming he is a mercantalist or all of his property is owned by the state.

When a corporation "consumes" a resource, can I still work the plot? Can I still build units that require that resource?

How do the bonuses work? Are they empire wide for cities that have the resources or empire wide for all cities?

A little schooling in this subject will guarantee you a country of your own in the new world order.

Thank you

You can still use the resource as normal - you get the happy/health bonus, can build the units that need it and so on. "Consumes" is a somewhat misleading term.

Corporations work on a per city basis. Any city that has a corporation branch gets the bonus food/production etc based on the resources that that city has access to.

Try using your spies to turn him out of state property/mercantilism. Then you can spread the corp in his land (but do it quickly because he might switch back)

If he switches back, then what good would it do to spread it at all? The other civics would nullify any positive effect, correct?

If either one is their favorite civic then don't bother. Otherwise they might not switch back especially if they like the benefit of the corporation. One game I did that and they not only stayed in free market but started spreading it to their other cities - great for lots of free :gold:

My games never go to the modern age - I try to win or either just save it and most likely never open it ever again. lol

This thread is very helpful. Should I keep trying to trade for more of the resources my corp. uses, even though I've already got them? Heaven knows, the AI always seems to want to trade me more.

you can see what corporations are costing you in a particular city by hovering over your maintenance fee. as you get more resources, you get more goodies from the corporation, but that fee also goes up. meanwhile the 5g at HQ doesn't change at all.

from what i've read, 20 resources is about the max you want to go. more than that and you lose a lot of money. 10 resources if the HQ making the 5g/city with the corp isn't your wall street city. i got that info here.

definitely read MrCynical's strategy article linked in his sig if you didn't notice it. that article has helped me a lot!

Sid's Sushi is good in (a) cities where you need the culture; or (b) cities that don't have enough food.

Propagating Sid's Sushi into cities that don't fit the above categories is a waste of gold. Unless it's the AI cities.

Sid's Sushi + Dutch player + water maps = unstoppable force. You can put down a city on any crappy island, even without a food resource, and it turns into a big powerhouse.

Dutch is way overpowered.
