Anyone have any Egypt tips/strats for IMM?

I remember reading one post where somebody mentioned a defensive wonder build for Egypt where you aim for Great Wall/Himejei/Kremlin. I can't actually pull it off, AI always beats me to the wonders but was wondering if anyone had any other strategies and/or tips to help get the wonders.

I've always wanted to try a straight Engineer wonder strategy picking up as many +engineer points as possible.

Well, can you hard build the Great Wall on Immortal with a high chance of success? I've never focused on it so I can't tell you. But if you can, then you could pick up construction early which would be good on a marble and mining resource start. So go mining - masonry - construction - pottery - writing - philosophy while doing a national college start.

Then sign 3 RAs when philosophy comes in which will probably be around turn 55. Use them to pick up currency - chivalry - civil service.

Use the meritocracy GP to build Himeji Castle and resign all 3 RA's. You could use those to give you education - acoustics - banking around turn 120 and in the meantime after researching theology you could go down and pick up workshops from metal casting, build one and station an engineer specialist while you're waiting for the RA's to come in.

You could probably rush build it (the Kremlin) around turn 130 or something like that? I'm not sure as I'm just coming up with this off the top of my head but give it a try it might work...

All that might be for nothing if you can't reliably build GW at the beginning often enough. There may be a way to use the first engineer for a manufactory and get the most of of egypts ability hard-building, but I'd have to test that one out.

Reset game 'till you get a marble spawn, settle the marble - SP into that 20% to wonders and then you might stand a chance on hardbuilding an early GW. That will free your meritocracy GE for a later wonder.

Honestly I'm not positive opening with a hard build on GW is really viable long term since it delays key beakers techs and you are likely to be caught up to the later wonders but it's worth giving it a shot.

Yep it certainly wouldn't be a optimal strategy for any civ but as a sort of gimmick game where the OP's goal is to just build those wonders and have that good D set up for fun. I'm not sure it'll work by any means but if you have just marble and mining luxs I think it might be ok.

Haha, depends on your definition of "optimal" and what your goals are I guess. In my head, the more fun I squeeze out of a game the more optimally I've played.

If going for a one city culture win with the Aztecs on Immortal or Deity (where you bait the AIs into constantly warring inside your territory) would a strat like this be a good idea? Can you even hard build the GW at that level when you're not Egypt? I'd rather save the meritocracy GP for Himeji Castle.

Has anyone done a write up yet on an Aztec game like that? I've seen people talk about it and want to try it out. Some tips would be really useful.

Mad Djinn's Aztec playthrough (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=421474) was probably the single biggest factor in me becoming a player that beats immortal to a player that beats Deity.

Granted hes doing 1 vs. 7 which is somewhat harder (he has some great tricks) and also uses the Civs abilities to their fullest.

I liked the idea of that wonder combo and decided to leave Deity masochism for a day and play IMM as egypt. I got all three wonders with ease.

I beelined construction, neglecting NC and even luxuries. I hard built the great wall. As for policies, I went tradition-aristrocracy-liberty-citinzenship-meritocracy. The free great engineer rushed the Castle. I tried to keep 3 RA`s going, but it was far from perfect, due to lack of gold (both me, sometimes, and the AI`s). The crucial techs out of RA`s were Civil Service, Currency and the Kremlin tech (acoustics?). I hard teched education and chivarly, which is not optimal.

I never managed to get workshops out before Kremlin to accelarate the second engineer. The points from Great Wall and the Castle did the job and he came out in time for another rush.

I ended up with the three wonders without ever feeling raced too close for any of them. I also squeezed a couple settlers in my build order so I have 3 solid cities and I could add another decent one if I want.

What I did neglect was my military. But I was playing my map. I DoF`ed one of two neighbours so I only had to care about the other one (England). I got two free units out of city states that I befriended for a short time after an automated scout cleaned two quest camps (?) (lucky me I guess, but it`s cool to know that they can do it anyways). I also planned to buy england into a war to keep them busy, but I did too late and they attacked me anyways. No problem. With the wonders up (kremlin just finishing) my minimum military easily dealt with the invaders.

I haven`t finished the game yet but I feel like I can turtle up to whatever victory condition I want.

I didn't look in depth but I could swear you are confusing maltz' 1vs7 deity tackle (the way of the bushido) vs MadDjinn's FFA wth 7 AIs.

Chances are if you are lucky enough to settle a Hills-marble that it is possible to hardbuild the GW w the tradition 20% bonus...on Deity you would probably also have to delay other lux' improvement to cut 2-3 forests to luck it in. I might be exaggerating it, I haven't tried to hard build any ancient/classical wonders on deity in forever

If you miss it by couple of turns you can always bribe the AI that build it to go to war, they kinda stop wonder building and switch to units. Not for long but...

I have often found a strong defense consists of me making nukes before anyone else and applying them liberally. It generally generates a large amount of fun for me as well, and seems to work 100% of the time on immortal.
