A close Civ2 clone and designed specially for MP it's also playable SP against the AI although this is limited by no diplomacy (always at war on contact. I've even tried OCC successfully on it.

It's free as an Open Source project.

I agree with GK - something seems to be missing.

Perhaps it's worth mentioning that Freeciv was designed to be multiplay - hence the absence of AI diplomacy. However it seems a new beta version has been released which has incorporated AI diplomacy.

I have enjoyed playing OCC in Freeciv finding the absence of AI diplomacy a refreshing challenge. I also found that using the Hi-Res tileset made the SP game more pleasant to play. I have grown accustomed to the (to my eyes, pretty) HiRes graphics in Civ2.

Yes I think it's the same as the one just called Freecraft. Apparently Blizzard exerted its copyright to have the game removed from Open source development but I managed to download it from an rpm site.

BTW have you played it? I'm new to warcraft I have to confess :p

I try it out whenever there is an update but progress is slow and it is geared to much to multiplayer. It's a shame too, because Civ3 is the only reason I boot into Windows anymore.

EzInKy:
Do you play OCC (One City Challenge)? If so it's worth playing it in Freeciv - a new interesting twist to a well-established strategy (in Civ2 anyway).

I was wondering if it'd work on a handheld pc (pda). It works on very different systems, so I think I'll give it a shot.
