anyone know how to change leader names?

just picked up ptw...saweeeet! anyway, i want to permenently change the leader name of the arabs (abu bakr) to something else. looked through all the text files, and could not find where they are stored. anyone know how to do this or if it is at all possible? i know you can change it at start-up of new game, but i want permanent change. thanks.

You would have to go into either the Civ3x file or civ3xedit file under the program files-->Infogames Interactive-->Civ3-->Civ3PTW folder.

Civ3x is the main mod.bic file that changes rules for every game (default rules) so don't touch that file unless you really know what you are doing because if you screw something up, causing the game to crash, and can't figure out how to change it back you'll have to re-install the whole game! (save a copy of that file before making changes, for emergency/safety back-up).

Civ3xedit you can do the same thing, but it creates a scenario, so when you play PTW, you would just load up that scenario, then randomize the map to play by those rules (and civ names) and this won't affect the normal default rules.

When loading up either file, go to 'Scenarios' and check 'custom rules', then you can go to the 'Rules' and change the name under the 'civilazations' tab.

thanks bamspeedy. what program do i open the civ3x file with? can't say i really know what i am doing, but should be okay if i make the backup file like you said. tried opening with notepad, to no avail, bunch of symbols that mean nothing to me. is this somehting i would need a programming program for?

I just double-click on the icon and it opens all by itself. Actually it is it's own program I think, because when I right-click and select 'open with' I see Civ3x and civ3xedit as choices.
