Anyone play Defense?

Anyone here play the Defense scenario?

So far, I am stuck at round 15. I just get overwhelem by those pyscho samurai and those suicide grenadiers. I just learn from the hard way that range bombardment is a must.

Yeah, I got to round 5 before moving on (warriors). Interesting game. What's it like at that level? I find that I don't have the time to do the range bombardment for a whole lot of units and whilest exploring as the timer tends to run out. Range bombardment is good though.

I found that until level 10, all you really need are two forest warriors to protect the two routes to your first city (in the middle, by the small wood, enemies will come straight through the NE and SE forest tiles so fortify your guys there). Woodsman, Combat, Medic Promotions. Exploring the map isn't really worth it, the huts don't give much money and you can easily lose your exploring units. Build more cities as soon as possible for the income - but the enemies will ignore them, they'll keep going for the first city only.

In round 11, the psycho samurais will show up and butcher the forest warriors, so make sure you've teched to and bought macemen, or something of comparable strength.

And for all that is good and holy, turn quick combat on.

Defense is the worst scenario in BTS. I do have some hints..

- Focus on building cities on the first rounds. Place your cities like this: http://i12.tinypic.com/6fh6q1j.jpg

- Don't bother defending the other cities. AI is too stupid to attack them

- Don't explore the map. It's a waste of time (and money if you bought any spies)

- After building 6 cities research Riders and then Macemen. Build 2-3 macemen as soon as possible and get experience with them til they have all the promotions

- Ranged units are absolutely essential on later rounds. Buy the cheapest ranged unit you have and place it in a stack with other ranged units like this: http://i19.tinypic.com/4kdp6dz.jpg

- Suicide bombers are the most dangerous units. Kill them with ranged units as soon as possible. Scouts are a cheap way to kill any suicide bombers who get through your ranged defense

I think this will be the next scenario I play with. It doesn't seem deep, but like it could be a ton of fun

Whenever I try to play this scenario, I always come across the same problem: I can't build any units. They all just get stuck at the whole 10 turns remaining thing. Help anyone?

You can't build units in this scenario. You buy them before the round begins

Get to Advanced Start mode, I place Athens and buy a couple units - then click BEGIN... then nothing, nothing and more nothing. Clicked through 30 turns or so and then I quit. Didn't see a single attacking unit, nor any "Round 1 begins" announcements.

What am I missing here?

Yeah, That's what I had. I just found that they came on a direct route everytime: 2 forest warriors, the rest as cities and then a few longbowmen (4 currently).

Nice point about quick battles too.

Patience! Keep going. The round takes time for the units to get there. The round wont end until the units have been killed anyway.

Has anyone seen this? If I put the maximum number of cities out, (no more location spots), then you cannot purchase a tech.

yes, all you need is save and reload, or save, quit, then load.
