Anyone play hotseat vs self?

It depends, I play on the most "realistic" map that is mysterious (Fractal in thsi case). I tend to use randomizer to pick the civs so I can actually name the leaders instead of having "PLayer 1 of the Shoshone".

Thanks, those are two good tips. Also competing against myself for religion will be odd, so I will prolly just leave that to the RNG. Its really only the first few wonders that I will have to be kind of arbitrary with. The rest will go to the first civ that has a GE available. I will just have to give it a try and see how it goes.

I do both, win and lose.

It does occur to me that, if I am playing 10 civs, I win once and lose 9 times!

Can you set up team alliances? 2v6 could be interesting, but 2v1v1v1v1v1v1 would be a cakewalk.

I'm not sure, since I've never played MP. I did try a team game in single player as the Songhai teamed up with an AI Mongolia (with the same goal as I mentioned earlier). It sucked! Every time I declared war for my team, the AI Mongolia would make peace for us at the first opportunity. That's why I thought it would be better as a hotseat game where I can control both civs, whether as an official "team" in the game setup or just my own doing.

I think what Team system needs is a vote system, so if there's 3 people in a team and Mongolia attempts to make a peace the other 2 players can vote "Yay or Nay" on it to see if it works.

Yeah, and when I'm feeling pessimistic, I ALWAYS lose,
and when I feel optimistic, I ALWAYS win!
Weird co-incidence!

I've tried playing hotseat games vs myself as well as hotseat vs myself and AI. Unfortunately, my games have always ended prematurely from gradually losing interest.

What I really want is to get to the most interesting part of the game, the late game, in which the tactical aspect opens up with new unit types: multiple naval units, air units, tanks, and missiles. But getting to that era takes too long.

What I'm most looking forward to from the experience is better use of military units, and world wars among multiple civs.

To help me roleplay, I use Info Addict mod for guidance. In one of the windows, it lists the diplomatic pros and cons of how each civ feels about the currently selected civ, exactly equivalent to seeing how an AI opponent feels about you.

I cannot be 100% sure about this, but I've made a certain observation. It seems to me that the game seem to group up certain civilizations game after game in the same groups. So for example, warmongering civilizations are grouped together, peaceful civs are grouped together, civs with their unique units in the same or close eras are grouped together. Hard to get some action on a continent with all peaceful civs.
