A few years ago, I wasted a lot of time playing a game on the internet that reminded me of MOO stripped down to the most basic possible form. It was real-time, played against a single computer opponent on a starfield with maybe three different classes of stars. Depending on the star's class, it would generate a new ship every so many seconds, and eventually you had enough ships to start throwing them at the computer's stars. There was some blooping trance music that gave the whole thing some atmosphere.

Easy to win, with a full game taking around 15 minutes, it was still kind of fun. I've had a mind to play a few games, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Does anyone know it?

Thanks, vmxa, for pointing out Moby Games. I can't find it there, though. I think this game I'm looking for might have just been someone's private development project that I bumped into accidentally, so it might have been way, way under the radar....

You could try posting at the Home of the Underdogs

I've been impressed by the collective knowledge of computer games that is on the Underdogs forums. Asking where to find a free download will get you flamed, but asking for someone for the name of a game often yields results.

Just include as much detail as you can remember. I've seen them ID games just by a description of a particular level, or from a combination of the color scheme and camera perspective.
