Anyone Serious about a CivFanatics ICQ Activelist?

Would anyone be interested in being the owner of an ICQ Active List for CivFanatics? (First noted here http://forums.civfanatics.com/Forum1/HTML/000226.html ) I'll run the whole thing....it's just the owner has to be online all the time. And my connection is too slow and erratic. It is a great way to meet players instantally.

Advantages:
-Messages can be sent to all members about games at one time.
-When you join the list your instantally connected with ALL other members/players
-It would be like a CivFanatics ICQ Community!!!

Only newer versions of ICQ can be on the list. (2000b/2000a) And I'm not sure if the Mac has the feature yet, but if there is enough interest, then I'll start another list!!!

Well if you can't find anyone else I 0wn it, as long as administer. I have a cable modem and my comp is on a large part of the day. Tell how much is involved on my part and I'll see what I can do.

I've actually had it up for 3 days now. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0> but I haven't publically announced it yet. I can have it on almost ALL the time by myself, but I need a few other things done first. I'm also training Admins, so Cedric....if you want to be an admin you should join now. I'm not at home to administer the list but it is online as long as a family member of mine is online (which is most of the day.) I should be getting a broadband connection in a few months......maybe I'll just own it until then.

The list is called "CivFanatics MP City". Dogberry (Another admin) and I made up the name. I'll put the ActiveList Number here. It can be a little tricky to join it since it's a grossly under-advertised feature of ICQ.....I'm making help pages and help movies so hopefully I'll have that released in a few days.

Switch to Advanced mode in ICQ First....then....
Click the button "ICQ" then move mouse to "Add / Invite Users" then left click on "Find / Add an ICQ ActiveList" Then it will say search by ID. You will then enter "115159604" and click "Next" Then click "Add List" that should get you on.

Then you should be able to join.

Well I probably am not the most reliable person for administration right now but we'll see in the future. I would imagine that administrators will get to ban the silly spammers which will, no doubt, join the list and try to sell their product or whathaveyou. But what else is involved?

Wow, it's funny cause I have never been drunk but I sure as hell have no idea WTH I said there. Anyway I haven't been able to connect to the Active List in over 2 days. Has anyone else had this problem (besides CivI)? If you need a new owner I will do it. Also can an Activelist have more than one owner? It would be easier to keep it online if so.

Well even though noone replied to my post I will offer my assistance agian, I like Cedric's idea of more then one person owning it (if it can be done) If I was to help out in partially keeping the active list online, it could work out good cause I am on at times when most of you are not. so that way we can keep it going 24/7 and hopfuly more Aussies will be joining soon.
 
ok I added the list but it isn't online so I can't join right now. If you still need someone who can have it on all the time, I have DSL and could leave it on all the time.

Yeah....A guy named Stericus, left it on all the time. It's possible that he has gone away for the week and it crashed. (It does so A LOT!!!!) And he's not there to reopen it.

What I might do is get him to send me the database at the end of each day in an e-mail. Then if his ever goes down, I can just put it back up. But you see....his data base has 50+ members. My old copy have 15

You see where the problem comes into play.

But I will start getting a weekly copy from him to avoid such problems in the future.

If you want to have a list to use as a backup when that one goes down I have just started a Civilization III active list for people who want to talk about Civilization III live. I don't see why this list can't also be used to organize Civilization II matches though. The active list number is 117709262. It is on right now on my home pc.

The frequence with which this active list is down has made me think of creating my own active list. Also I was thinking that since I host the MGE patch it might be a good idea so that newbies (to MGE, including me) who find my site through links and search engines have access to other players instantly so they can start learning. Do we think this is a good idea?
