So I think i will lay down this game at least until the first update and here is why.

I just played a game on Apollo, Standard Map on quick, Polystralia, Artists, Thrusters, Worker. I went for Harmony VC, founded 7 costal cites and spammed sea trade routes.
I ended up winning the Mindflower win on turn 171, up until then i didnt even here so much as a bad word from the AI, the whoe game went by without a single DOW to me.
The aliens were also gentle, i had to kill definetly less than 10 of them.
I am an regular Emperor player on BNW, but this doesnt even come close to that.
Im really disappointed with the depth and challenge of Civ:BE.

Screen shots or it didn't happen. 171 seems a bit quick for harmony win.

You could always try a self-imposed OCC for some added difficulty. I was able to pick up a win with two cities and while it was another game no one bothered to declare war on me (started the game largely isolated by mountains/wilderness, Slav Fed conquered my closest neighbour and decided he liked me due to affinity, so probably largely luck) it was a lot closer than other games (had to send redeemers to PAC via phasal transporter to kill her exodus gate to preserve the win). One city might actually be hard to do, give it a try.

Was it an atlantan map? Those maps tend to give you enough space to not encounter the AI until you have build up a lot. The continent map are the one I have issues on with the limited space. Some one always takes DoW when you get a good spot first. With a Pangaea type map the AI tends to be fights one another instead of you most of the time.

Fourth game from the top, and it was a Pangea map. Like i said above it was on quick, not standard

The game is just super easy in general and not at all balanced it's in a beta state still to be honest.

The game feels really streamlined for multiplayer instead of hoping the AI rocks your socks off.

I anticipate a patch at some point regarding some of the balance issues. Just some AI tweaks.

Which will be followed by much crying upon the forums.

Yeah, I had an harmony AI win with mindflower on turn 305 on my first game.

I was like well, okay fine.

Not to invalidate any of the points you made, just to give some context: that is 171 turns on 'quick' pace.

But yea, still ... on the other hand, would it be fun if you had a peaceful game all around for the AI to declare the moment you start building the mindflower like you have become Stalin incarnate ... I guess on Apollo, you would expect it to ...

You don't have to play with Polystralia every time, or use artists and the starting worker. Try playing with a different starting setup, on a map with little water. Maybe you will roll a tundra start with swarms of aliens blocking crucial chokepoints to better lands.

I don't possibly understand how you could play 1 game of this and say there is no way to make it challenging for yourself.

So far the hardest set-up I have tried has been a might virtue civ on continent. When I went full knowledge that was easy. Been avoiding the prosperity tree for my first games.

Lol I don't understand some people. If he could crush the game on day 1 of release on the hardest difficulty without any challenge, then there's definitely a problem with the game itself. Hardest difficulty should be something you overcome with time not barge through in less than 10 games played.

If you are an experienced civ player there really isn't much difference between civ 5 and be.

Apollo 163 Turns Contact Victory.
0 Wars in my game.
I Play Civ5 on King :crazyeye:
Polystralia, Artists, Surveyor and Pionering start. Spamming trade all day
