Apostles destroyed by NON-religious units (theory)

My apostles are being destroyed by the AI's non-religious units during their turn's movement phase. I can guess what's happening. Since no player's unit (religious or non-religious, human or AI) is allowed to move into a tile occupied by a religious unit, how is it that three times in my current game my Apostles have been destroyed by swordsmen or spearmen?

My theory is that the AI is attempting the swordsman to move into the tile after my apostle, but lacks the movement points to do so, so it stops in my apostle's tile, "defeating" it (which cost me 600 faith on this last time btw and resulted in multiple cities losing 125 religious points).

For example, I just had a swordsman adjacent to my apostle attempt to travel into the rainforest behind it, and instead, since it only had 2 movement points just came to a stop on my apostle's tile. It's broked.

It's not a bug.

Anyone can move military units onto a religious unit when you are at war with the owner to kill them. It's an auto-kill for the religious units, they are treated as support units.

During war time indeed, I have destroyed the AI religious units in fact about 10 of them at one time with my horse. Ran through them all and removed all the foreign religion.

i don't think #1 said about war. It happened like this:
When you (right click) move a unit into fog (or undiscovered tile), if there are obstacles on the tile you right click, your unit will stop. In this case, apparently a swordmen had to stop on the tile where his apostles stand. It's weird but sometimes it happens.

There are pathfinder bugs that might cause this. In a recent game i tried to attack an enemy unit adjacent to an encampment with my cavalry. The game attempted to move my cavalry over the encampment (it wasn't mine but the enemy's encampment) rather than around it, which caused the cavalry to attack the encampment instead (no big loss, it survived) but that's not the end of the story. That adjacent tile was occupied by another cavalry unit who had no moves left so after it's attack my cavalry ended it's turn right there, stacked with another unit. Fortunately i could end the turn anyway and no unit vanished but at the end of that turn i had 2 units stacked! And just to make it clear, i don't use the units stacking mod (in fact is was without any mod).

Forgot to save this one unfortunately.
