Noob question, if it should be moved, please do so.

I was playing a game and was pretty far ahead in the mid game (15th c. or so) when all of a sudden, _EVERY SINGLE AI_ declared war on me via the Apostolic Palace. WTH?

Reading things, it seems the issue was I needed to make sure the Apostolic faith was spread in my empire, allowing me a greater vote in the matter. Still, (a) is this common and (b) how would you handle it? I dug in deep and fought a very defensive 400 years or so, emerging in the middle of the pack, but still intact.

This is a good question for this area I think.

I recently read someone was talking about being able to block the majority vote in case he was at war, he needed his vote to be big enough to block. In order to do that you have to spread that religion around your empire via (I'm sure you already know this) Missionaries.

Nice job staying alive man!

It's "Declare war on the infidels" - if you dont have the AP religion in your empire, the others (who have) can vote to declare war on you.

Spreading the religion to your lands would prevent the Holy War thingie, but could rais another Issue: if th AP religion is present in Every Civ on the Map, the AP can Vote someone to a Diplo victory - and with just one or two cities of that faith, it most certanly will not be you :D
