I honestly have tried using them that much, but I really can't see a point. When I wanted 5 float stone it cost me 3 favors... I really like the idea but they don't give you anything.
So if this is true, can I trade my 99gpt for for 33 favors and then get 3300 gold ??
That would be ridiculous...
Then declare war, and get my gpt back...
Repeat with other AI's...
Provided they have that much money saved up?
It definitely works. I just tried it out in game.
gpt for favor
favor for gold lump sum
dow
get gpt back
welcome to civ 5 gold exploit all over again LOL
1500 gold on turn 50... gonna buy 6 rangers with that money and take over some capitals
You can do this without favors as well, can't you? Simply trade ept for energy, then DOW to renege on the deal.

Useful but, a faction with 1500 gold on turn 50, will not be bothered by 6 rangers plus bunch of marines.
Oh I guess you can actually directly trade gpt for gold lump sums, I just assumed that bug/"feature" was removed and the favor system just was a way to work around it.
I have not verified whether it can or cannot be done this way, just thought it might. Used to use that in MP games years ago to loan to teammates.
Yeah, there's also a "Remember what I've done for you."-option when you ask them if they want to declare war on someone with you.Intresting use for favors, I asked Arc to stop spying on me, she hates me and refused, I then got the dialog option to insist which costed one favor, and she stopped spying on me! Have anyone else noticed this?
This mechanic should be expanded! It would be nice with a "stop attacking my station" which could be insisted for a favor. Or actions that could be forgiven for a favor like digging in others territories.
And on top of that you do still get a positive diplomatic boost for favor-deals (that have the "gift"-dialog).
