Are gamers more intelligent?

When I finally awoke from this arrogance I realised, sure, my history was well honed but I'm very much lacking in a lot of areas, including common sense, social skills, anything possibly regarded as practical and useful in the real world.

Well that's more 'wisdom' than 'intelligence.'

It's an important distinction in some games :mischief:

That's just a stereotype, I know plenty of smart people who are also good at sports.

If that's the case, I fit the stereotype perfectly.

Usually intelligence comes with gamers as a show of their ability to grasp the near limitless possibilities in dozens of games. Expanding memory and such. However, with intelligence also comes other downgrades, more often than not in the social skills department. One with enough intelligence can often work themselves out of that corner though.

As a gamer I play strategies and simulations, which gives me a false sense of intelligence. Whatever doubts I have from that are quickly made up by my perfect GPA though. :p

I believe that games like those in the civ series help one to improve one's strategic intelligence. In terms of other intelligences, not so much.

Part of the difficulty with such a quesiton lies in the meaning of the word 'smart'. What does it really mean?
