I wonder if they've ever done a study on this.

I always thought it would be cool to have an identical twin. So many things in life are better when shared and who better to understand and appreciate things with than someone with all the same DNA but enough distinct & seperate life experience to give them slightly different perspectives that you might not have ever noticed/realized?

Just a random thought I had as I was biking today. That's what OT is for, right?

I only know of 1 set of identical twins,my cousins, and they're both pretty normal. Oddly enough there are 15 sets of twins spread amoungst my family and my relatives, my family has 2 sets and I'm part of 1 of them.

Anyways my twin and I, we're probably the most unhappy people in the family. And my family aren't the happy type of people either, at a recent reuinon(last week) alot of people commented on how our family never seems to smile. My twin and I havn't lead normal lifes(I didn't get my own room till I was 16, he didn't get his till he was 18), but it hasn't been that bad so I think it has more to do with our up bringging then anything else

I should also mention that my twin and I look NOTHING alike. We have a hard time convicing people that we're brothers and usually end up having to pull out our ID to prove to people that we're twins. Even then people doubt it's true.

I don't know about being an identical twin but being an unidentical twin sucks. You never get your own stuff, are always associated with your twin, and never get the attention you would get if you did not have a twin.

@ h4ppy: That's only what happens when they are in childhood.

But, I would rather have a brother/sister instead. Twins aren't that good, I mean looking the same? That's just .... frightening!

I think they are and aren't. (As with many things in life)

They are happier because you always have a friend. Your sibling is your age too so you can agree on many different topics. You are best friends hopefully and can spend birthdays and holidays together. If you're identical, you could also switch for fun and to mess up other friends. ;)

The bad part is that you can feel the itch of sibling rivalry big time. Some moronic people make it like because you look the same, you must be the same person. The parents of twins shouldn't be dressing them up in matching outfits as that hurts the situation. (There was actually a show I watched on this on TLC and the twins and triplets that were dressed alike clung to each other even as adults. They were VERY attached to one another, to the point where they almost felt like on entity)

My older sister looks a good deal like me. She looks pretty different (she has curly hair and a different nose and face shape) but because we are italian/latin looking in the South, everyone assumes we're twins. I look older than I am (my face just changed as I got older) so everyone thinks we are BOTH in college. And that we're twins. (Or the bigger insult when people think I'M the older one. Gets her angry. :p)

In my opinion being a twin sucks.
1) You're always half a person.( "Hi twin A, where is twin B")
2) You are always mixed up.
3) You are treated exactly the same as the other one.
4) Your twin has almost the same thought pattern as you, and therfore, you have very little "uniqeness".

There are however a few advantages to being twins:
1) You always have a friend by your side
2) Cheating on tests has never been easier.:crazyeye:

This has more to do with how you were raised. About 10 years ago my twin, my younger brother(18 months younger and oldest of another set of twins) and I were all on the same wavelength. We knew what was going on and usually try to beat each other to jokes and stuff like that. This is all because we were babysat by our older brother, who we all use to think like. We were all into the same stuff simply because of who we were raised by

true, but you forgot one advantage: being 6'5" tall and having an identical twin saves you a lot of bullieing in school (I had two guys like that in my class)

As a matter a fact, I am

As a twin, I can say that for all the reasons above for against the case are true. Yet ANOTHER generic 'yeah I agree' post, but meh.

Can't think of a twin being useful other than for shifting the blame too. :D

I agree. Except on the advantages. Having a brother is just as good as having a twin without the disadvantages.

I wouldn'd like to have twin, you'd always be refered to as part of a pair.

Although i don't no any different.

I don't have a twin, just a sister. Everyone still makes us a pair no matter what. I love her and all, but it's annoying sometimes cuz we have very different personalites.

Good thing is you'll always know someone in school. The downside is jealousy (what if one is more popular?) and people not recognizing which is which. Seriously, I have twins in my class, we just refer to them as the same person by their last name. Occaisonally I'll try to learn their names but I always forget, and it only really matters if you have a class with one of them.

I do not have an identical twin. Life sucks scrotum. So my answer is YES TWINS ARE HAPPIER.

How many twins are here anyway!?!? I thought I would be the only one posting.

I agree totally with all the reasons being a twin sucks except for option 4. My brother and I couldn't be more different mentally.

Option 1 is kinda true for the advantages but I think it's true for any siblings of close age.

Another advantage I found is a heightened sense of finding distintiveness in people. What I mean is, looking at other twins we could always tell them apart easily where others just got confused.

Like Chinese and Japanese and Korean all look the same... But if you are one, you can tell the difference. Maybe you only care enough to try to distinguish between twins if you ARE a twin.
