Are You Being Spied On?

I have a format every 6 months or so ...solves these things quite nicely. Thats one bonus in sticking with Win2k pro.. :) WinXp annoys me with the limited number of reinstalls.

Hmm, anyone know of a way to make Kazza stop working? Not uninstall it. I would like to leave it on the desktop so he won't notice I fooled with it. But rather disable it. I probaly have a couple programs that could do something(not that I would know what the problem was, much less what I did to cause probelms)

What do you mean by not working? Do you want the application to even run? Or do you want something where it runs, but can't ever connect. For the former, use something like Kerio, and set it up to deny running of Kazaa. For network access, either use a personal firewall to deny access to the network for Kazaa, or disable outbound access on tcp port 1214, which is the default port that Kazaa uses.

Is it just me, or do you have to pay for that PestScan thing?

I used to use iMesh/Kazaa regularily, then I smartened up, and got rid of them, not I am slowly cleaning up the mess left behind.

The scan is free, you only have to pay if you wish to buy the application.

As for Kazaa, You could probably delete its programs from c:/program files/kazaa this should disable it,but the icon would remain on the desktop. :goodjob:

I figured out an easier way. I wanted a way that could not be disabled, like a firewall could. So I DL a hex editor and edited the .exe file. I just randomly deleted small sections of the code. :D Now the computer no longer reconizes it as a proper win32 file. :) Through I will also do that default thing so that when he figures out that Kazaa no longer works and installs a new one he still won't get it to work. :)

Unless he installs another filesharing program instead... Or just deletes the program instead and then installs it again...

That version of Kazaa dosn't spread spyware?

It shouldn't or it at least has less... Probably a good idea to run adaware and spybot afterwards just in case.

Wrong thread!
WTH are you talking about, cg? We're talking about Kazaa because it's so spyware-infested and how to get it off that person's computer.

I'm assuming that he accidentally made a post in this thread when he meant to post elsewhere and then quickly edited his post...

A peer to peer file sharing programme. You download stuff from a server connected to other people's computers.

ALong with a hell of a lot of other crap. He reinstalled it. And the hex editor will no longer work. <sigh> He knows I had something to do with it. he just thinks that it was adaware and spybot that caused it to no longer load. :mischief:

Told you it probably wouldn't work... Just run adaware and spybot after he installs it... Or get him to download Kazaa lite, or even better get him to install something like DC++ instead.

If I were him I would uninstall Kazaa and then install Kazaa lite, hoping he wouldn't notice.Or I would do something really mean like taking a screenshot of the Kazaa icon and putting it on the desktop to replace the real icon. :mischief:

Probably true cause Kazaa won't run if the spyware is removed. Try Kazaa Lite and tell him it has no spyware or adware on it and does the SAME EXACT THING.

I used adaware, and it said it got spyware on Kazaa, so i removed it and it corrupted Kazaa, so it wouldn't run.
