ARGH! is there any way to turn off global warming?

On the subject of pollution: would someone please explain to me why anyone would bother with the Recycling Center improvement? I've never seen a city have so much production/pollution that the combo of Mass Transit-Solar Plant-Hydro Plant/Hoover Dam hasn't been able to control it completely. Why would anyone waste money on the Center?

As I recall Mass Transit removes all population based pollution and solar plant removes all sheild based pollution (it also slows global warming by absorbing atmospheric heat or something). And Recycling Center only removes 2/3 of sheild based pollution.

So yeah, you only need Mass Transit and solar, that is, if I'm right.

Oh, and guys, I wasnt after a way to turn off pollution, I was after a way to turn off the global warming (only).

My point was, there are parts about this game that are NOT realistic (like how the nukes can only move a set ammount of squares) that are like that for the sake of a good game.

Something that can punish all for one person's negligence, does not add to the game IMO. Read some of the previous threads, about having to start alliances to clean up other peoples pollution, don't you agree that it's all a little silly?

Anyway, I was merely asking how >>I<< could turn it off (by modifying game.txt or something), let people play the game in a way they enjoy it, don't bag them for it.

read the instruction book, buddy. or did someone burn it for you? its in the civilopedia too. you think it would better game play to have nukes travel the whole way around the world? oh yeah that a good idea. i have never encountered a problem with global warming;have yourengineers clean it up, build improvements and wonders in your city that prevent most pollution, and above all, have your engineers clean it up! would you rather i type up the excerpts from the rule book for you?

i do not believe those improvements do that. here, hold on....

solar plant: increases factory output by 50%. cleaner than all other forms of power.

recycling center: decreases pollution caused by factory.

mass transit: eliminates pollution caused by population.

hydro plant: increases fact. output by 50%. cleaner than power plant...

all of this information was gathered from the TOT civilopedia, which is exactly the same as civ 2.

its a part of the game, and you can adapt to it. yoiu will adapt to it if you wish to continue playing and do not wish to have your scores screwed up by cheating...

disclaimer: sorry if was a bit harsh... sorry

- no instruction book, pirate copy (never got a chance to buy it anyway), and you must've misread me about the nukes, I was saying it would NOT be a good game with the nukes like that, it WOULD be realistic, but NOT good for the game.

And it obviously DOES have a negative impact on the game, otherwise you would have people making alliances with AI civ's, just to clean up their pollution for them, that's just stupid.

"i dont think it says that either..."

- That is what some people might refer to as... A joke... As in "hahaha". Get it?

- /me goes to civilopedia
Solar Plant: "Increases factory output by 50%, and eliminates all pollution caused by sheild production. Helps to slow the onset of global warming by...."
That was taken from the Classic Civ 2 civilopedia, TOT may be different. I can't be bothered typing out the rest.

"disclaimer: sorry if was a bit harsh... sorry"

- Dont worry you weren't, but I will repeat what I said, let the people play the way they want.

Say I wanted to make a weapon the destroyed every unit in the whole map in one turn, you may think that stupid, BUT IF I GET MORE ENJOYMENT OUT OF THE GAME THIS WAY, WHO THE HELL CARES?

Just an FYI, on the chance that you weren't aware of it. The pollution on a square also decreases the productivity of that square.

No offense (or offence for our Queen's English speakers) intended...
