Nominations, Debates, and Elections

Points to discuss for creating this article:

These are the things that won in the polls -

* Standard Election Cycle (7/3/3 days - noms/debates/election) '
* Strict 1 office per player.
* Debates continue through the elections.
* nominees win elections by simple majority of votes.

There was no clear winner for the debates structure question (per thread or per office). Let's get a compremise on this one, and put this one to a poll and in the books.

Works for me. I'd prefer to see one debate thread per branch, just to keep the nomination thread uncluttered, but can handle putting everying in 1 thread.

X. Elections
  1. Nominations and Debate
    a. Nominations will be created by the Election Office 7 days prior
to the end of the month. Citizens may nominate themself or
another citizen in this thread. Citizens may also post pre-
nominations in the Election Office thread if they will not be
present during the nomination period. This nomination thread
should contain a description of the office.
    b. All debates will be within the nomination thread, and will
continue through the end of the election cycle. Any citizen may
post questions for the candidates to answer. Candidates may answer
or not answer as they wish.
    c. A nomination is not considered Accepted until the candidate
makes an explicit post. All self-nominations are considered
    Accepted unless otherwise stated.
 2. Election Polls
    a. Election polls will be created by the Election Office 3 days
after the Nomination threads are created. These polls will contain
the names of all Accepted candidates for the office, a description
of the office, a link to the nomination thread, be set to run for
3 days and be marked private.
    b. Should a citizen Accept multiple nominations, and does not
explicitly clarify which office they wish to run for, the Election
Office will use the first office they Accepted.
    c. The citizen with the most votes at the close of the poll is the
    winner of the election. Should
 3. General
    a. The Election Cycle will run from the first nomination thread is
opened until the last runoff poll closes.
    b. All threads and polls should be posted at approximately 00:00
    GMT on the correct day.

We need to change the more than one accepted nomination.

Were having problems filling poistions, lets not be idoits trying to make a "perfect society." Open it up to where people can run for 2 poistions, and were solve some of our headaches.

So, you propose we don't fix the problem untill about the time people start complaining about it again? Good idea...

Now... lets get it changed.

Strider - that was in the poll, and lost.

1 person, 1 nomination, 1 vote.

Strider lets be reasonable, we have 3 options:
1. We have it set to 1 nomination, great early game, bad late game
2. We set it to 2 nominations, bad early game, great late game
3. We change it late game to 2 nominations, good early game, good late game.

I have an idea, why not set it to automatically change when in terms where the census is below a certain number. I would suggest 30.

Actually, it was in the poll and won.

The point of that being?

That's certainly an odd interpretation of the results.

From the poll:
Strict 1 office per player: 16
2 Nominations per player, can hold multiple offices: 1
2 Nominations per player, can hold one office per branch: 5
2 Nominations per player, (player must choose 1 if the player wins both offices): 10

Strict 1 office per player won. That's one person, one nomination, one office.

I see Nominations as something completely differant from how many offices a person can hold.

I see the results as the following:

2 Nominations per player, can hold multiple offices: 1
2 Nominations per player, can hold one office per branch: 5
2 Nominations per player, (player must choose 1 if the player wins both offices): 10

That's a creative approach.

It's a logical approach, and the way I saw the poll when I voted.

16 people saw it another way.
You are just taking advantage of the multiple choice poll and the wording, to suit your fancy.

Strider is right though, that says 2 nominations, but only 1 office, which does follow 'strict 1 office per player.' It doesn't say "1 accepted nomination, 1 office per player." If that is what you meant then it should have been that way, but it doesnt specify how many nominations, so you have to use one of the last 3 options. In this case, the 2 nominations, but 1 office held also got a considerable amount of votes. Strider's view is the most logical.

You can make polls and statistics mean what ever you want when its not stated up front. Its the case of another poll with unclear rules.

You could also say that more that 16 people wanted something other than "strict 1 person per office" if you add the other 2 office/nomination options and the ignore governors option togather. Stider and I both voted for the option that got 5 votes. If this was going to be strictly a 50% + thing then we should discount people who voted for more than one of these options, in which case even the strict 1 person per office would fall under 50%.

Still, this was the only option that got solid support by 16/31 people. Go with it.

I'll give up on this, because it seems that Ravensfire's "way of seeing it" is how the poll maker wanted it to be seen.

Still the poll wasn't extremely clear. I would prefer it to be repolled, but it can always be amended in later, so I'll drop it for now. We've got bigger problems that need our attention.
