Gameplay wise, which AI-leaders should I pick to end up with lots of civs following the Ashen Veil? Because I don't see it that often, and I'm hoping for a very hell-y game for Christmas.

Alexis, Keelyn and the Sheaim for sure.

Mihuatl is supposed to be AV-oriented too but I think the Cualli are still agnostic.

Other than that I'm not sure; we should really add religion weights to the wiki.

Sheaim in general, Elijah Arnauld, and Hafgan the Purger have some pretty hefty weights for it in my experience.

EDIT: And Keelyn. Duh. How'd I forget her? Definitely put her in there.

The problem is, the weighting never seems strong enough. Every single time I play with the sheaim on the map, "someone" else (ok yes quite often it's me) discovers RoK, then sailing, then before I know it the single sheaim coastal city has the religion and they've converted. A couple dozen turns later they've beelined AV, have the holy city, soon all their cities are AV, but they are STILL worshiping kilmorph. Even if it's malchevic and he's gained the spiritual trait from getting AV and so doesn't have to contend with a 1-turn revolution.

Actually Keelyn is a very good little devil girl, and does convert to AV quite often, even though she doesn't seem to bother going for corruption of spirit herself. Of course, lorewise, it does become clear in the scenarios how Keelyn is the best of all the FFH leaders when it comes to hell, but I digress.

It may become necessary to use worldbuilder to remove non-AV religions from the civs you want to convert. Also, if you want a fun-filled helly game for christmas, I'd recommend not having the cualli. It's great fun to fight them, sure, but once the counter hits 50 all their beautiful productive marsh+jungle+swamps turn into useless blue stuff (shallows) if hell terrain is hanging around.

I'd say the sheaim are absolutely essential though, even if they don't go AV. If only for the Elegy ritual to help armageddon.

Challenge mode: worldbuilder someone Infernal Pact on turn 1. Then watch hyborem take over the world from the start

Maybe spreading AV (and founding it of course) should have a chance to remove some religions in the city it appears in. Could be some sort of representation of a conflict between the religions -- although it shouldn't be systematic so we can add events happening when two religions are in contact in the same city (AV + Order...).

Although in a game with Os-Gabella, she founded AV and converted almost immediately despite having converted her to RoK myself.

I think I first heard MagisterCultuum give the advice of doubling every leader's religious weights.

If you want it to be extra helly, turn on the option that doubles changes to the AC. In the game I did that the Apocalypse came around quite nicely without AV intervention

This rarely works in my experience, once a civ has already converted to something else. On one such occasion, the Sheaim converted to RoK, and never unconverted, despite having AV in every city, the AV holy city, and no other religions in any of their cities.

If I remember correctly, some of the "tips" that come up on the loading screen mention AV and Order not working well together in the same city. I always took this to mean that some sort of event would occur if AV spread to an Order city, or vice versa. Is this not the case?

It's the case but an extension of this is planned.
