This NES is to be modeled mostly from EQ's legendary Return to Our Roots NES 2.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=31531

The focus is ONLY on playability. Not realism.

I will have NO NPCs. SPREAD THE . .. .. .. . OUT! We WILL NOT have 10 european countries. Countries that are close to where real life civilizations started in the begining will start out stronger than those like say in europe. (Hot spots should obviously be around lucrative rivers such as (But not limited to).. Nile... Trigris Euphrates... Indus... Whatever that river is in north america that the aztecs were centered around)

I will rely on you players for stories. Don't expect a paragraph to be wrote from me on your country every update. That's YOUR job, Storyteller!

Rules

Economy

I like Motherhen's economy system. A simple 2 number system. The first number is your income per turn. The second number is the amount of money you have left in your treasury. To increase this number you must be imaginative.

If you invest a whole turn's worth of jack into your economy, it may raise and it may not. To help with the raise, you may give me reasons why your investment would, in fact, increase your economy.

Sciences

In order to advance through the ages, you must be prepaired to invest in the future of your people's education. I'm going to have a new system for this, called "Sciences" this will be represented by a number. In order to increase this number, you simply spend jack. At some point (Determined by me, but I do have a chart I will reference that I have made, subject to change because I am the only one who has access to said chart. And the number may vary from country to country, determined by your country's culture) your investment will be whiped clean, and you will advance in technology.

That being said, if you would like to start side projects, for more immediate results, that is doable. (i.e. I want to make a catapult, so that I can attack these walls easier... Spend some jack, and hope for a result.) these must be doable projects for the age you're in.

If you enter a new age, you can upgrade your army to meet the quallity of that age by spending 1 jack per 5 divisions/fleets.

Culture

Culture is a stat that will help you tame barbarians around you, and perhaps even get the peoples of other countries to culture flip to your country. Granted, the 2 countries would have to have a huge contrast in culture for this to happen, but minor culture flips aren't being thrown out the window.

Culture will be determined by a number, too... Culture will be hard to improve, but you can never have too dominating of a culture.

Army and navy

Defined by a division or a fleet. You raise the number of armies/navies you own by spending a jack on it.

I.E. I have 2 divisions. I spend 1 jack, I have 3.

As time goes on, I will allow divisions within your army (I.E. 1 division of cavalry, 3 divisions of infantry)

You MAY have a unique unit, if you wish, with it's own strengths and weaknesses. Just tell me what the unit is, how much you want it to cost (The more, the better quallity), and what's unique about it.

Upkeep

If you have 5 divisions/fleets, you will have to continually spend 1 jack on upkeep.4 divisions/fleets there is no upkeep, but 5 there is 1, 10 would make for 2 upkeep, 15 would be 3 upkeep, etc...

Stories

The cornerstone of a NES, brothers. We need stories in order for this to be a never ending story. Your country is yours. I don't know a dadgum thing about it. I am relying on YOU to tell me about your country. I'm not going to have the at uh boy system in this NES, however stories will have a direct impact on culture, and a number of other things (Army quallity, if you make your country to be a war-mongerer, perhaps special upkeep rules, if your country is more agrarian based... etc....)

Wonders

Every civilization may build it's own wonders of the world. THIS COSTS 0 JACK! YOU MAY NEVER SPEND MONEY ON WONDERS TO SPEED IT UP! If you spend money on starting a wonder, or spend money trying to speed it up, you will lose the money! SO DON'T DO IT!

To start a wonder, simply put in your orders the name, what it's effect will be on your gameplay stats, and I will put a time value on it. DO NOT ASK ME WHAT THIS VALUE WILL BE, BECAUSE I WILL NOT TELL YOU.

As far as historians can tell, the Yahkman civilization rose to prominance in about 3000 BC. They were divided into four groups. The smallest of the groups were the farmers and fishers. They were responsible for feeding the Yahkamns and after much time they were very good at it. These farmers were near the bottem of the social ladder, but nobody anagonized them due to their importance.

The next group was the Raiders. This group was the second largest of the groups and constantly attacked nearby tribes. These tribes were brought into the fold as slaves forced to work the farms or mines. The raiders were in the middle of the social ladder, and were very active. A large part of the monarchs funds went to these people.

The slaves they captured, were at the bottem of the social ladder. They were also the largest of the groups, but their presence was what facilitated the large population growth of the Yahkmans. Male slaves were allowed to keep a harem, and any children they had were free. All of the groups needed good strong people, like slaves and their children usually are. So the slaves children were happily intragrated into every part of Yahkman society. In fact they royal bloodline actually had some slave blood in it.

The last of the groups were the stonemasons. They were the highest you could get in Yahkman society, and drove it forward. As a stonemason you would direct the slaves in the mines and quarries, and supervised the transport of matierials elsewhere. THen you could help in the construction of houses and monuments, that were everywhere in Yahkman villages. Finally they were also philosophers that meditated on the ways of the world and how it worked. Through this they found better ways of doing everything from mining, to farming and everything inbetween.

3000BC

Civilizations dot the world!

Some civilizations have started out a little more powerful than others. There is no real huge gap in power, though. You guys' world from here on! Do what you want, as long as it doesn't infringe on the core rules.

You CAN build wonders, but they WILL NOT be rushable.

I'd like all orders to be posted here on the thread for the first couple of turns, so everyone knows what's expected

EDIT: Yahkma starts in the bronze age! In order to upgrade your army/navy you must spend 1 jack per 5 divisions/fleets

UPDATE IN 24 HOURS!

The Louisianians were nomads before the year 3000 BC, but in 3000 BC they settled in a beautiful coastline with the beautiful oceans in front of them with a view of some islands it seems, and with adventures swampland behind them. They called this settlement Orleans.

Most of the population where farmers, who irrigated off of the Mississippi river. The next class up were the merchants who bought the food from the farmers and transported it to the local market where they sold the food. The next class was the army, who protected the merchants and the country and then the upper class where the builders, because buildings where in such high demand at that time.

After some successful farming the citizens noticed that they had plenty of food. They expanded north up the peninsula and up the river. Now King Churchille, the Current king has some great plans for Louisiana and he will strive to reach his goal of all of north America to become Louisiana, only time can tell however if this will come true.

A little story:

As Harappan civilization spread, many resources were used by the people of India. Patches of jungle were hacked down by crude axes, creating an abundance of wood for building and burning. With the surplus of wood, many communities had wooden housing and wooden ornaments. Wooden tools were also rather common, although they were beginning to get replaced by stone or even metal tools. Throwing spears were very common in Harappan militaries and hunting groups, largely because they were cheap and easy to construct.

Boats were also more easily constructed with the large amounts of wood taken from the jungles. This led to an increase in the number of fishing communities along the coasts. Fishing vessels brought in nets filled with fish to the cities of Harappa. Combined with the farming along the large Indus River, the Harappan people are very well fed.

While many Harappan people worked in fields or on the sea, some merchants grew wealthy off of the ivory trade. Elephants dwell in some parts of India, and have very valuable teeth made out of ivory. This ivory can be carved and made into beautiful ornaments and then sold for high prices.

The elephants themselves are occasionally trained and then used to help clear jungles. Their large bodies help clear out smaller vegetation, and their strength allows them to carry larger trees away to cities. Because of their constant contact with humans, elephants are becoming a more and more familiar part of Harappan life. Merchants and other wealthy individuals will often ride them to show their status.

Many years ago, the warriors of Harappa saw the destructive power of the elephant and have now begun to harness it. Elephants are now becoming part of the Harappan military, officers riding them so they have a better point of view during battle. Some warriors are trained to ride elephants, but have no high rank. These are mahouts, people who have spent most of their life training elephants. Along with a mahout, other people might be riding on the elephant. There are often archers on an elephant, riding in a small carriage called a howdah.

With these resources, Harappan civilization has thrived for many years. But Harappa is for the most part isolated from the other major powers of the world, and only time will tell what will happen if they ever meet another country as powerful as theirs.
