Atheism is something unique.

But I agree that atheism is unique. It's the only type of theological belief that is completely devoid of anything positive. It's the only religion that is completely empty.

Opinion.

One could easily say its the only religion devoid of meddling unobservable forces, the only one where your destiny is your own. Of course to do so you would have to call it a religion in the first place... which is incorrect at best.

Mary didnt stay a virgin...........

she had numerous sona and daughters after Jesus.

and atheist dont believe in a God, but if there were no God there would be no atheism.

If that was a response to my post, well: clearly I was saying that she stayed a virgin after she gave birth to Jesus, not that she stayed a virgin for her whole life (and I was just stating the belief, no need for comments like "that's stupid it can't be true").

The four noble Truths are fables dictated by a lot of things.

Even if that is true, it doesn't mean they aren't unique.

And that goes for Mary's virginity, Muhammad's prophetship, and the noodly appendages of the FSM. Unique =/= true, as far as religion is concerned.

Because all religions are really just composed of themselves. There is nothing unique about religions. Atheism, however, is the belief that there is no higher authority, no intelligent "power". That is really the reason I believe in Atheism. I also think: "Hm, something so irrational and unorganised? There can't be an higher spirit involved."

Here's what you wrote, smartass. Atheism is unique 'cause there's no higher power, that's why I believe in Atheism. Care to rephrase?

And as someone pointed out, Buddhism doesn't posit a higher power. Nor does Taoism.

Let's look at a definition of religion:
Spoiler :
something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience:

By that, you can say that strong atheism is a religion, as it is something one believes in.

Which is untrue in itself, as Mary obviously stayed a Virgin her whole life, but that's for another thread.

How exactly do you follow atheism?

No higher authority than man, no 'power' more intelligent than man. No higher spirit than mans spirit.

Atheists have a God. Here he is:

That sounds like a good reason to give up on religion.

Well I am a deist now, so not even really religious anyways. But yeah, there is no logical reason for me to believe in God right now.

Always remember that you're unique, just like everybody else.

The four noble Truths are fables dictated by a lot of things.

Oh, wow. You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you? Dude, I totally respect your atheism, but you really, really shouldn't talk about something you don't understand.

By your belief in there being no God.

That's not following. I suppose there is an argument for strong atheists who try and teach of the lack of God are 'following', but to claim atheism in general is religious devalues the term 'religion'.

I think it was best said like this: "Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color."

Although, technically, the only state of mind that cannot be called religion is agnosticism.

But I submit that you could also define the following as religions or religious concepts:
- Democracy
- Communism
- Free Market Capitalism
- Patriotism
- Money (Yes, money)

That's why I specifically mentioned strong atheism. Atheism in general is just a general denial of there being a God.

Shrug. I've never even met a strong atheist... they are a rare breed.
