One could easily say its the only religion devoid of meddling unobservable forces, the only one where your destiny is your own. Of course to do so you would have to call it a religion in the first place... which is incorrect at best.

If that was a response to my post, well: clearly I was saying that she stayed a virgin after she gave birth to Jesus, not that she stayed a virgin for her whole life (and I was just stating the belief, no need for comments like "that's stupid it can't be true").
Even if that is true, it doesn't mean they aren't unique.
And that goes for Mary's virginity, Muhammad's prophetship, and the noodly appendages of the FSM. Unique =/= true, as far as religion is concerned.

And as someone pointed out, Buddhism doesn't posit a higher power. Nor does Taoism.
Correction: If there were no theism, there would be no atheism.
Let's look at a definition of religion:

By that, you can say that strong atheism is a religion, as it is something one believes in.
Which is untrue in itself, as Mary obviously stayed a Virgin her whole life, but that's for another thread.

That's not following. I suppose there is an argument for strong atheists who try and teach of the lack of God are 'following', but to claim atheism in general is religious devalues the term 'religion'.

I think it was best said like this: "Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color."
Although, technically, the only state of mind that cannot be called religion is agnosticism.
But I submit that you could also define the following as religions or religious concepts:
- Democracy
- Communism
- Free Market Capitalism
- Patriotism
- Money (Yes, money)

That's why I specifically mentioned strong atheism. Atheism in general is just a general denial of there being a God.
Shrug. I've never even met a strong atheist... they are a rare breed.
