If you have an MPP and go to war as a result what happers if you make peace before the AI with whom you had the MPP makes peace?

I had an MPP with the Arabs who went to war with the Celts. The Arabs were polite with me. I don't remember how long the war had gone on but after i had taken 5 of the Celts cties war weariness was becoming a problem for me so I made peace with the Celts. Know the Arabs are furious.

Could my making peace before they did be the cause? If so, is there a better way to handle this? I'm at war with 2 other AI's now and Arab support would have been nice. I figure they will join the other side shortly.

Yeah, because you broke the agreement you initially made with them. If you're both at war with a common enemy, making peace with him is of course going to upset your ally, whether it's just a mutual protection pact or a military alliance.

The only real way to avoid this is to wait for your ally to make peace first, if you're looking for their attitude to remain polite or gracious with you. Yeah, it's a pain, but that's how it goes. I suppose you could try giving them a few gifts or something, but I'm not sure how well that whole thing works; veteran I may be, but I know next to nothing about the game mechanics.

And yeah, if you're still in a mutual protection pact with the Arabs you can expect them to join the war shortly. It usually takes an attack from one of the enemy AIs, or for you to initiate an attack against one of them.

Not only their attitude was affected, but you'll have trouble signing agreements with other AI's from now on since you broke a treaty before the 20 turns was up.

The only real way to keep this from happening is to honor your treaties. MPP's are especially troublesome since (as you found out) they allow your ally to drag you into a war you really don't want to be in.
