I recently installed Civ4 on my laptop and it works great, but I have a problem with the audio in game (this problem doesn't show up anywhere else so I know it is Civ related, and my headphones are just fine). The audio is normal at first, but it starts switching between 'normal' and 'subdued' so it sounds very strange.
I fiddled with the audio options in the game menu (mono, stereo, and headphones) but that didn't resolve the problem.
The device drivers I have is Conexant 20672 Smart Audio HD version 8.32.23.0 running on a new Lenovo Thinkpad T420. I checked, and it appears my audio driver is up to date.
I have no problem with the graphics and there is no stuttering of anything else in the game.
Any ideas on how I can resolve this?
