I thought it would be nice to see what, if any interest is there in our National game. The only reason I'm still interested is the fact that my team, West Coast Eagles are on top and play great football.

Obviously I've got little reason to be really interested right now... but I still am, not being a bandwagon supporter :D. We've got some good younger talent at the moment who are doing some good things on the field, so it at least makes it worth going along each week.

I love playing the game, was taught it by an Aussie exchange teacher at my secondary school. But unfortunately we don't get updated on the leagues over here, so these teams are all news to me.

I found a US outlet for the AFL! Unfortunately, they are editing
the games for time slots, but it's still fun to watch. The featured
games was West Coast v. Melbourne. Since the last time I was able to see AFL games, the referee outfits have changed quite a bit, especially going from those old Panama type hats to baseball caps. I liked the old look better....

The Melborne West Coast game was one of the best games of the season so far. It was one verses two. The game lived up to it hype in Australia. It would be good if the coverage of these game is better around the world.

I can still remember the early days of ESPN when they showed Australian Rules...haven't seen one in years.

:bump:
The finals have started and now we are down to the final four, so I better give a recap of the rest of the season before I get to this stage. The top eight looked like this.
1. Adelaide Crows
2. West Coast Eagles
3. Sydney Swans
4. Saint Kilda
5. North Kangaroos
6. Geelong Cat
7. Melbourne Demons
8. Port Adelaide Power

Here is how the teams faced in the finals.
Here are the two qualifying finals. The Winners go straight to Preliminary finals.
Adelaide vs St Kilda
West Coast vs Sydney
The loser of these two matches have a second change as they go then to the Semi finals.
Here are the elimination finals
Kangaroos vs Port
Geelong vs Melbourne
The Losers go out of the Finals race and the Winners face the losers of the qualifying finals.
So here is who they went.
West Coast and St Kilda won the qualifying matches and they earned themselves a week rest as a result. Adelaide and Sydney had to play this weekend and they hosted the matches. These two matches were very close.
Here are the Semi Finals
Adelaide vs Port
Sydney vs Gellong
Adelaide and Sydney both won. The Sydney Geelong game was one of the best finishes ever. Sydney only won the game with a goal a few second before the fianl siren. They also came back from a defict of about 24 points.
So next week here will be the Preliminary finals
WCE v Adelaide
St Kilda v Sydney
I'll give more detail about the games so far in the finals after I get some sleep. C ya.

Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports actually show some Aussie rules, for those interested US viewers. I find it to be a fun game to watch, though I don't really support any team, being thousands of miles away.

Aussie Rules Grand Final (equivalent of the US superbowl) on today... Sydney vs West Coast. Thought this thread deserved a boost in celebration, even if the rest of the world does not care...

Ahem, ahem.

*silence*

The swannies just won!

First time in 50-odd years that they've won!

Indeed... was hoping they'd get up. Good for old South Melbourne supporters, good for Sydney, and great for the game nationally. Next year, the Bombers! :D
