Been playing a game and since there is the wonderful autosave function I dont bother hard saving or quick saving. so i pop out, read a bit about changing the scenarios, make a quick game and save the scenario to see what the xml is.

then i get back into civ and try load my autosaves. unfortunately, there are none. where exactly have these gone? this is a joke right? the autosaves from a game get deleted if you start another game?????? since this autosaves immediately with start it will happen straight off  now the old saves arent in the recycle bin and undelete progs dont detect them. what the mother&*%^!

thanks for wasting my time with your auto delete of auto saves function. ill be sure to appreciate the game not wasting a few dozen meg of 700 gig of hard drive space over its lifecycle.

The autosaves are always deleted when you start a new game, and have been in every previous incarnation of Civ. Yes, this can be annoying if you don't realise it the first time, but they're only really intended for if the game crashes, or you choose to reload immediately when things go wrong, not as the main saving method.

If it didn't work like this then how would it work? For one the system for naming the files would have to change, since currently they are named simply by the date in the game. Two, I think you are underestimating how much space it would take up. It will certainly use several dozen meg over the course of a single game, since there will be over 100 autosaves even if left on the default setting of every 4 turns. If it doesn't clear them out at the start of a new game, when should it? Not all of us have 700 gig hard drives, and the save games would soon take up a significant amount of space. I would prefer not to have to clear them out manually.
