Yes, there's an option in the options panel in the UserCP to have avatars not displayed. Never tried it...

Of course, that point can't be used for the pro-bigger-avatar argument, because most people like seeing avatars, so if there were bigger ones the slow connection users could use the option, but they wouldn't like doing that.

If you want big, use a default one. The settler is 80x80. I wonder how hard chiefess had converting her settler avatar to a christmas-y kind...
