Hello,

I have started playing Civ 6 again with the arrival of Gathering Storm. I had not played since the original Civ 6 release. I am seeing an issue with lack of era point opportunities in the late game. I have seen this discussed from back when Rise and Fall came out. Have there been any changes made with the new expansion or other patches since then?

My question is for those of us who like to play through all eras. I know many people do not run into this issue because their game is over before this point. I know you could try to hold back on era points but as mentioned in the Rise and Fall discussion, that does not seem like a very enjoyable solution.

My second question, is that if any changes were made to give the final eras more opportunities for era points to align better with earlier eras, would that negatively affect the game for anyone?

I haven't noticed much in the way of changes to era score accumulation, except that it's now easier to get some wonders simply because there are more of them in the game, and that translates into an additional era point or three here and there.

My strategy when I fear a late game dark age (assuming I don't want one) is to abuse Archaeologists. The AI tends to build Museums without ever filling them. So I sell off artifacts as I dig them up (waiting a turn after each so I'm not exploiting the trade bug that I can't believe is still there after how many patches?) Since the Archaeologist doesn't disappear until his museum is full, you can keep getting era score until every museum in the world is full.

I didn't know about that the archaeologists work that way. That will be really useful. It's unfortunate to have to help the AI fill up their museums but I don't think I want to finish the game on an eternal dark age.

By and large, you can get much more benefit from the Era Score than the AI will get from 12-16 extra culture and tourism per turn. Just don't sell to anyone who's threatening a Culture Victory. Or to the culture leader if that's your goal. But do sell to anyone that's lagging behind in culture because it generates more tourists for you to then attract. See the recent thread about Cultural Alliances.

Thanks for your help. There are a few perfect targets in my game that are no cultural threat.

I haven’t a problem with getting a dark age in the info/future eras (huge cont./epic prince). The dark age penalties are underwhelming & easily manageable.

I did not know that the Archaeologist didn't disappear until his museum is full! Thanks for this!

I frequently have a hard time with loyalty issues if I hit a late game Dark Age. It's not worth it to me to have to waste policy card slots on handling it, and while a governor or two can be spared, I often have more than two cities that need the help.
