Axis and Allies?

I've often heard of that boardgame, but never played it.
I've got Risiko (very simple game) and Civilization (wonderful, much more complex game).
How is Axis and Allies?

I KNOW what it Axis & Allies but I haven't got it, so I'm asking the differences from other war games (if there are other threads please give me the link) So I ask the 2 points back
