I apologise if this is a really dumb question but I see everyone on here talking about Babylon... I can't access Babylon. How do you get this civ? I bought the official steam release but they're not on there. Do I have to download them seperately? (à la Mongols).

they were in the civ 5 deluxe edition and can be bought for $5.00 USD after the 25th (this month) when they release the free DLC.

sarcasm?

Steam had two versions of the game for digital download.

#1. Civilization V
#2. Civilization V Digital Deluxe Edition (includes Babylon)

Sounds like you bought #1 - bad luck, download them for $5 tomorrow?

Isn't the Deluxe Edition 10 dollars more than the standard?

Given that, if you don't care about the other stuff offered... it's better to buy the standard, and then Babylon, wouldn't it?

will let you know tomorrow when i see if this free DLC counts as my D2D "free DLC", if it doesnt then yes. If it does then its $2.50 USD for soundtrack (which is great) and $2.50 USD for the making of movie.

Well heck even if it does count as our "free" DLC it comes out to $1.66 USD for soundtrack $1.66 USD for movie and $1.66 USD to play Babylon and have them in the game since release. That's still not bad at all really.

To those of you who have used them... are they worth a fiver?

Wow totally misread your question, thought you asked was it worth it getting the Deluxe Edition.

As for is it worth it to pay the $5 for them now.... If i didn't have them i would get it, but thats just me and i tend to not be able to resist such things :)

:) Cheers for the pointers anywho.

Basically you pay 10% of the cost of the full game to get 1 additional civilization.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 10+ hours of game-play I had as the Babylonians. So many great scientists, I just catapulted through the tech tree.

They sound pretty powerful but in my opinion DLC is rarely worth your money. $5 is a lot for just one civ when the game comes with 18 already ;)

Best thing about playing Babylon is that means you don't have to see him in the game... (same for Montezuma and Alexander).

Despite the AUD and USD being almost at parity the game costs $100 new in a box here in Aus. You guys buying the game for $50 USD might not see $5 a civ as a good deal but $100 AUD divided by 18 civs is 5.5 so it's actually not that bad here despite our absurd prices on games.

Of course I pre-ordered the game from a UK online retailer for $40 AUD so the point is moot for me.

The Babylonians aren't all that great, to be honest. They get a few extra scientists early on, but there's not much for you to use them on yet so you end up with extra scientists just sitting around doing nothing. Or you can delay teching writing for a long time. In the long run they don't get a whole lot more scientists than any other civ. They're like a philosophical leader from Civ 4.

China, France, and Greece seem a lot more powerful.

He's not the most powerful leader (China, France, and Greece are admittedly pretty ridiculously powerful), but he is fun.

Also, maybe it's just me, but the Nebudchadnezzar diplomacy stuff is hilarious, haha. He has way more personality and character than most of the other leaders.

Yeah was he supposed to be insanely emo or insane? I love his quotes.

" Are you real or just a figment of my tormented soul?"

Well, he's one of the oldest leaders depicted, and the further back in history you go, the harder it is to get like, real facts about a guy. A lot of his depictions are from the Bible, even.

So it's hard to get an idea of 'what he was really like', and he doesn't have a popularized image the way Alexander or Catherine do, so that lets designers have a lot of free reign.

I dunno why he is depicted the way he is, it would be a neat question to ask some of the Firaxis people sometime.

Not so. Great Person cost scales linearly in this game while it was exponential (iirc) in Civ4. That is, if the first one costs 100 and you produce 10gpp you get it in 10 turns. The second one costs 200 which you get in 20 turns, the third one costs 400 which you get in 40 turns. With philosophical you got the first in 5 turns, the second in 10, the third in 20 because you added twice as many points.

However, in civ 5, the first costs 100, the second 200, the third 300, and so on. So again assuming 10 points you get the first in 10 turns, 20 turns, 30 turns, etc. while the Babylonians (correct me if I'm wrong because I don't own them) halve the cost of this, putting them at 50, 100, 150, etc. or 5 turns, 10 turns, 15 turns and so on. So the effect is much better than just getting the first one a bit earlier.
