Background Music Fade on Zoom Out?

OK, I have the game after a <forever> wait on the pre-order list, I went through the black terrain headache until I upgraded my Video Card, now I can finally play (though the choppy audio on the movies still ticks me off).

I’ve fired up my first game, and I’m noticing that the background music (BGM) can only be heard when I’m in a severe zoom-in on the map. When I back away on the game screen, the BGM sound level slowly fades. Is there a way to keep the music level constant regardless of the zoom? Considering that they went through the trouble of including a bonus CD of game music, ya’d think this is doable. Am I missing something in the audio settings? Any tips?
