Seriously, what's the point of the AI doing that? The moment they do this, they'll quickly get hated by everyone. Last (and the only!) time I did a backnouncement, I had a GAME LONG bright red negative modifier, and judging from how the other AI's treat the AI which did this - they get the same.

Last game, Santa, me (Askia "Cityburner") and Enrico Friendstolo made a DoF (I also befriended Inca but those two didn't like him much). Our DoF started becoming uncomfortable to the others when I eliminated Zulu, after which I attacked and eliminated England (needed some lands, and they just happened to attack my friend Pedro), after which I took Order, Inca took Autocracy for some weird reason (denouncing me despite DoF, making him widely hated and netting him a Denouncement from everyone else on the map) and Brazil/Venice took Freedom.

Brazil at least waited until DoF ended (which is smart) before denouncing me, but Venice denounced me despite the declaration, which didn't make them liked.

So, why are they doing this? Do they like being denounced by everyone else and getting a permanent negative modifier? The Inca already wasn't liked by anyone, so by doing it he lost himself the best and only trading possibility he had - me. I wanted some friends to which I'd give generous offers. There was no point in his action.

I can understand Venice more - I wasn't liked much already (because I was genuinely a warmonger), but they couldn't do anything about me anyway. So, why get a permanent negative with other AI's?

I'd understand if they denounced while having a superior military and a plan/possibility to attack, but none of that was possible for those two this game, with Inca being surrounded by much easier targets, Venice being rather peaceful (even if it along with Brazil declared war on America, despite it being much bigger and stronger than those two. It... Was weird, but they didn't lose anything).

Well, they said they hoped ideologies would radically change the end game and they certainly have. I've been playing on Emp/Imm and I see it all the time in the late industrial/early modern age when people are picking ideologies. Long-time allies and neighbors are taking different ideologies which immediately changes their stance with everyone else in the game. You can go from BFFs for 3000 years to most hated enemies in just a few turns.
