Barb cities keep improvements?

Please keep in mind - I don't play Terra maps so I usually don't see advanced barb cities.

Today I was playing Continents/Monarch/Marathon, and I got an unusually broken up map, one big continent, three small ones, a big island, and about three small islands.

Nobody started on the big island and it was pretty far away from everyone, so, my scouting caravel eventually uncovered a barb city. Skipping forward over lots of irrelevant stuff, part of my colonization force arrives at the barb city and I see it is pop 7 and has a lighthouse, a coliseum, and an aquaduct, as well 60% cultural bonus and many improvements in the fat cross, easily the most advanced barb city I've ever encountered.

I take the city, and all the improvements are left intact, including a granery I hadn't spotted.

Are barb city improvements always captured intact? Or was I just really, really lucky?

I think that only improvements which give culture are automatically destroyed, the other improvements each have to pass a dice roll I guess.

It's not quite that simple, but close. The info is in CIV4BuildingInfos.xml. Check the iConquestProb field for each building.

Summary: World Wonders are always kept. Academies are always kept. Religious buildings (except shrines) are always lost. National Wonders are always lost. Obelisk(Monument)/Walls/Castle/Barracks/Library/Theater/University/Airport are always lost. Everything else has a 66% chance of surviving.

I captured London from the AI with National Epic intact (I didn't build it myself).

Not sure, but I think they only lose the national wonders if you already have one - you cannot have two, so that one gets deleted.
