Barbarian dont kill workers and settlers!

Upon reading the manual I discovered that Barbs dont kill you undefended settlers and workers! They capture them, take them to their camp where you can liberate them.

That is a very change. I sometimes sent undefended workers/settlers and if you hit a barb in the mist you can either reload, or be very frustrated and set back.

It also seems they capture embarked units also. You can also "free" other civs settlers and workers that were captured. Then you can keep them, or give them back to the civ. If you keep them settlers turn into workers, and workers stay workers. Keeping them can have a negative influence on your relationship with said civ.

yiou can also liberate other civs workers and settlers getting you a diplo boost.

Pretty sure only workers/settlers are captured; great people, embarked units, and spaceship parts (assuming this last one though it would be an interesting mechanic to be able to capture all the parts for your spaceship) get destroyed.

Oh, and upon capture the settlers become workers and so no matter who frees them you can only get a worker. Same goes if you capture an enemy unit directly.

last time i played civ iv i ordered workers to build a road to a quite far city. then barbs pop outta nowhere to kill them. ogh the humanity!

That sure is nice of those barbarians. Maybe they're "liberal" barbarians and so they don't believe in killing innocent old settlers and workers.

Its good that captured settlers come back as workers. Then this actually is a rather good change.

Hmmm. Do you think when you have improved everything you could just let a barb camp take all your workers to not pay maintenance for them. Keep the barb camp safe, and just pop it later if you want the workers back.

Barbarians don't have to kill everything they encounter. Capturing, enslaving, ransoming, etc are still fairly barbaric behaviors.

No. keeping them does not incur penaltys.

I would have preferred for a little graphic image of a pole with a head on top to appear on the spot where the barbarian attacked the unit.
