Hi,

It's great when you have a barrack and are defending because then defenders
get fixed the next turn.

But it's also pretty frustrating for anybody who is attacking you...

So I think this is pretty unrealistic...

Why was it done this way ?

I think it would be much easier to concuer people and make more intense gameplay if this "super fix" was not present but also a bit scary without it

Bye,

It only heals units that did not move during the turn. So if you move in a damaged unit and fort it. It will not be heal instantly. It will not be heal the next turn, but rather the turn after.

If a healed unit is in the city and did not move and is attacked, it will retain all its health after the turn, unless of course it was killed.

This is not a big issue. The big issue is that it now allows armies to be healed in the same fashion. This does nothing for the AI, since it will not use an army, except in the rarest of cases.

Also remember that a unit outside of a city will heal 1 health per turn. A unit inside a city without barrack will heal 2 health per turn. While a unit inside a city with a barrack will heal usually 3 (a veteran unit) and at most 4 (elite unit) health per turn. The barrack is not that much of an upgrade. If it had any less healing power, it would be considered too weak!

Even with no healing power I wouldnt consider the barracks weak. You don't wanna go conquer your neighbours with regular units.

I think Own is right, it will not fully heal an army in one turn.

Yes it will if the army has not moved. I use that tactic in most games. Found a city that will come under constant pressure and let all units heal each turn after the barracks is build.

As long as they do not use their moves they will heal. I see this in my sid games constantly. I found an invasion town and rush the barracks and fort all units. The AI hits that turn or hopefully the next one. If the next all surviving units are fully healed.

It does not matter how many hitpoints they have. 6 HP AC elite will also get healed from 1hp to full.

I cannot speak to RaR as I have not played it. Probably they modified the function of barracks.

Further what I do is after I see how much they could toss at me, I may be able to use some units to attack left behind defenders or the next wave of attackers. Those units of course do not heal as they moved.

Sooner or later I will get to the point that I can go on the attack. Note that the one time the AI is willing to attack armies, is when they are in a town. It does not matter how many armies and how strogn they are. I have plopped down 5 or 6 Inf armies back by tank armies and they come riight ahead and attack.

Stick most armies out in the field at full health and they will leave it alone, until they have bombers.

Does fortification count as movement? If so, then I should perhaps just hit "Spacebar" instead of "F"...

In armies each unit will heal, so not in a city, it will heal 3 times, in a city 6 times, and in a city with barracks it will heal 12 times (assuming there's 3 units). Note: In Vanilla armies heal like normal units, what I just explained is conquests.

I am not sure I followed this. In C3C in a town with a barracks, an army of AC with 24 HP (4xac elites) will heal in one turn. Any 20 or more HP army will heal in that turn????

Yes C3 and PTW did not allow healing as it is in C3C. Armies were not alllowed to heal in one turn and not allowed to heal on enemy land without Battlefield (which I never build).

Actually what barracks really does is healing 4 HP rather than all of them. However, in the standard game this usually means all of them anyway, but in RaR many units' HP have been increased and they will then only heal 4 HP's even though they have many more.

Only actions that use up movement points will interfere with healing. You could move a unit from one end of the world to another on railroad, and it will still heal.

Fortification is okay. The only difference is a unit fortified in a city will not wake up after it's healed, but a skipped unit will wake up. That's a good reason to use spacebar rather than F.

War Elephants :p . So the civilopedia should be changed.

Mmm, I'm a little confused now. Do barracks only heal 4hp per unit that has not used a movement point (or part thereof)?

Anyway, I do not think they are overpowered in healing. The AI gets the same advantage. Except I rarely attack a town and not take it, so the AI rarely gets the opportunity to make use of their barracks when defending.

Considering you pay 1gpt for each barracks and most of the time you aren't using them (no healing, not producing a unit that turn), I'd say they are in no way overpowered.

Yes I just tested it and a 1 hitpoint AC elite will only heal to 5hp in one turn. So let me do my mea culpa now. I was too lazy to look closer to notice that 6hp units with only 1 left were not fully healed and amies of more than 16hp's lost were not fully healed. So again my fault, sorry for adding to the confusion.

Now all I have to do is remember it.
