New BETA Version – 4.18.4 (January 21, 2025)

Just installed 4.18.3, no other mods except VP and EUI. here is a city production queue, and it says I can build an archer in 4 turns. But when I click on the archer to start production, it jumps to 5 turns. Don't think I've ever seen that before.

I see the production went from 13.2 to 9.24 before and after clicking the archer. Maybe the city changed the pop's tiles? idk what else it could be... weird

You're right, but I didn't change production method, it's a new city so I leave those on "default". Also notice the buildings don't change, just the units

Is there any chance the number of allowed characters for when a unit is renamed can be increased?

I don't know why but the number is considerably lower than, e.g., names for a spawned great person can be.

Hello. I bought Civ 5 near the end of 2018 (on special for like 95% off). I played like 10 minutes. It was confusing (no tutorial). Then i stopped playing and did not return until the end of 2021.

I have played over 2k hours since then. I recently downloaded the Vox Populi Mod. The previous one that was released in October 2024. unfortunately each of my games (i tried 3 separate times), crashes.

I read this https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/new-beta-version-–-4-18-3-january-15-2025.693904/

I have each game saved at the turn before the game crashed. The post you made mentioned reporting the crash and uploading the saves to Github. Unfortunately i have no clue how to use Github. Also, since it was the previous version of Vox Populi, there is no popup window to mention any errors (i had been thinking ever since the first crash that such a feature was necessary).

I was wondering where and how to report crashes and how to find and upload the save games and logs. Also, is there some manual downloaded somewhere which shows the changes that the Vox Populi Mod did?

Also, some of the Mods i use are Wonder Race Mod,and Winder Race Hammers Back Mod (both are from the Steam Workshop). Also, the Fortress Borders Mod, and the Slavery Mod (again from the Steam Workshop). Turns captured workers and settlers into slaves, AND also get slaves when conquering a city (Get 1 per city population - Not sure if there is a pop limit on slaves though). Slaves work at 75% rate of workers.

Note - The Slavery Mod from the Steam Workshop is different from the Slavery Mod on this website. They are both also released in different years.

So i am not sure if it is possible. But could you ask, or direct me to whoever is responsible for / works on, the Mod, so i can request these features be implemented / have these Mods be added to Vox Populi as Modmods or something? Perhaps even a Vox Populi compatible recreation of each Mod? Though i do not know the difficulty of such a task. :D

Thankyou for reading this. :D

Happy first post. Here are some resources for you,
Unfortunately i have no clue how to use Github.
Here is the link, you just make an account and press the big green button. There is a formatted example to follow.

how to find and upload the save games and logs
You need to first enable logging. This linked post tells you where the logs are for a standard installation, saved games are in an adjacent, appropriately named folder.

is there some manual downloaded somewhere which shows the changes that the Vox Populi Mod did
No. The most up to date resource is the old wiki.

have these Mods be added to Vox Populi as Modmods or something?
in this forum there is a repository of modmods here. Be careful about compatibility, check the end of the thread for discussion.

i can request these features be implemented
Suggested changes for VP are handled through the congress which you are welcome to participate in. There is a recent post about the current schedule here.

Hey there, welcome to the community. :)

In addition to what hokath just said:
1. We will be working on improving documentation for the mod in the new year.
2. To avoid crashes, you could play the latest stable version, which will crash less (although unfortunately if you encounter a crash there it can't be fixed by a hotfix).

We're in the middle of a hectic development period right now, so I apologize we can't be of more help.

Does anyone use InfoAddict with CPP? It works 99% fine but in the last couple of CPP versions I've noticed that I couldn'tt get the attiude info on AI civs to work correctly (colored lines between nations don't show). I figured it was just a glitch but now I noticed this in lua.log (one instance per time I click the "attitude" button):

[296368.140] Runtime Error: C:\Users\joaki\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\InfoAddict\Lua\InfoAddictCivRelations.lua:1217: attempt to index local 'connectorcontrol' (a nil value)

Just wondering if anyone has encountered this and know how to fix it.

I have the same issue (still using 4.17.8). I took a look at it, but the fix doesn't seem trivial at first glance.

I also noticed that it doesn't show who you're denounced, if you're at war with them at the same time (Political graph).

It's not a huge issue for me, but weird why did it break suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere.

One thing I've noticed on the AI and war is that it will constantly shift units around even that is not a good idea. E.g., if you have a Warrior on a tile and the AI has two adjacent and injured Warriors next to this, the AI has a tendency to swap these units every turn even though the gain no strategic benefits from the moves and they lose the healing they would get from just standing still (or fortifying).

1. Why are 4.18.* releases called Betas? Is version 4.16.2 considered more stable than 4.18.3?
2. Is there a modpack for playing online with friends in 4.18.3? I saw a thread with instructions on how to make your own modpack, but I ask in case someone more experienced has already done it.

I am not playing every new version of the mod, but still, I was playing the mod for 5 years now, and weirdly enough I don't think I ever got a CTD (I am also using a good number of modmods), so I am interested to see with new functionality how many non-CTD errors are happening in my games. I was always kinda confused how relatively often CTDs are reported here (aside from those happening to everyone on some versions).

Actually, the only CTDs I get are the same as in the base game, when I zoom out too much in strategic view, for some reason the game crashes, but in normal view it works just fine on max zoom out. Does anybody know if this is a memory issue or something?

Now we are two at least...:) Not a single CTD here in 8 years of playing VP. I never play large maps, and do not use many modmods.

Version 4.18.4 has been released. Link in OP has been updated.

Thanks to @balparmak for the texture fixes!

Changelog:
Code:
Fixed several crashes and warning messages
Fixed a bug in river generation introduced in 4.18.2
Fixed some cases of the AI not withdrawing units and evaluating danger properly
Fixed texture glitch for Ordo and Hacienda in DX9
Compressed some texture atlases, which makes the project ~25MB smaller and hopefully also reduces late game memory issues
AI recon units can now target non-resource improvements for hit-and-run attacks

Online as of January 21, 4:46 AM CDT, savegame compatible with 4.18 versions.
