Workers can always terrain improve terrain to give you a 100% defensive bonus with fortresses and barricades. Yet in stock game your settlements built on flat terrain can only get a 50% defense boost via walls or by becoming a city. IMO it's strange that one can fortify the country side more heavily than built up urban areas that are a nightmare for attackers in real life.
In my mod these barricades represent the cheapest form of fortification with very low bombard defense to bolster town defense by 50%. They should be easily removed with any type of artillery but will be quite a speed bump to unsupported attacks. They fill the role of what walls are in stock game, leaving me to mod the walls into something more substantial.
The palisades are from AoE2 and the barbwire+hedgehog are from stock game's ind/modern age barricade
