I'm sure there has probably been a thread about this in the past, btu I just have to ask becase it's been eating at me for awhile.

Where the heck does this "all your base are belong to us" thing come from?

I know it's the subtitle of this forum, and that the AI says it to you when you lose at civ3 in the portrait screen thingie, but is there an origin for it beyond that? I think there must be, because I'm pretty sure I saw it floating around even before civ3 came out.

Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Apparently there was some (Japanese?) computer game which had a video sequence with really butchered english translations.

see here for a starter. There is a link in this thread to where you can find more info, but a search in this forum will give you some more info as well (it did for me - I too was completely oblivious to the 'phenomenon' until about 6 months ago:) )

Could have been mine. ;)

I counted, i believe this is the 12th thread about AYBABTU. And i mean entirely devoted to it.
I believe that makes AYB the most talked about event at CFC.....well, the most threads started for it besides the games like Civ1, 2, and 3.

Word association has had more threads...Theres been loads of middle east threads, september 11th threads, loads of politics threads, loads of favourite (insert something) threads, loads of where are you from threads and loads of cows in economics threads...

theres been about 4 cows in economic threads, theres been lots of middle east threads, but most of them started off entirely NOT about the middle east.

All of the AYBABTU ones have been 'What is all your base about...?' threads.

Thanks for the input folks.

Let me apologize for starting what (from what I'm hearing) is about the bazillionth thread on this topic.
