Basic Granary question

Hi, I understand that a granary stores 50% of food after growth, but what does this mean? I know that when the food bar is full the population increases by 1.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how to use the search function effectively? Whenever, I use it, the results that come up are often way of the mark. Furthermore, some search results I click on, only direct me to the forum and not the particular thread!

When the food bar fills and you gain 1 population:

without granary, the bar resets to 0....you need a full bar for another population

with granary, the bar starts half-full...you only need half a bar to gain another pop
