There is a lot of info on this site and have learned a great deal already.. but have some questions for which I haven't seen any info.

I play c3c (d/l'ed the patch but don't know it it is working or what - how do I find out if the 1.22 is installed?)
I am playing Monarch usually, still not confident enough to upgrade. Usually play the Ottomans, but have lately been trying others like the Romans.

I've seen a couple of references to building palaces.. Why ? It would seem to be a waste of shields, wouldn't it? I try and build the forbidden palace far enough away to be able to influence the nearby cities who are being eaten alive with corruption.. but that usually means that I have one city spending a hundred turns to build or more and that just doesn't seem to be enough value in time. Oh, btw, I usually try for early conquests as opposed to hitting modern times.. I like the early game better.. The modern era game seems too slow with armor not moving much faster than medieval infantry and slower than siphi..

Sorry.. digressed there.. what would be the circomstances that would justify building a new palace ?

Thanks..
SeaDog.

most people don't build a new palace unless for two reasons:

1. you want to do a palace jump to get a really corrupted area more productive

2. palaces are really expensive, so players will sometimes use it as a prebuild to wonders to beat the AI. with all the sheilds of the palace carrying over, it is easy to build a wonder quickly.

These strategies are really good, so you should try to use them. hope this helps. :)

I would build a new palace if my exsisting one is on the edge of my territory. This sometimes happens when you end up being able to only expand in one dirrection. I usually don't build it too far from the existing one, just to get a better centralized core.

Most people use MGL's to move their palace, or they might abandon their capital. I don't do this, so I'll let people who do explain their reasoning.

Building the forbidden palace far away isn't effective in Conquests (other than in the city in which it is built), because the rank corruption is so high in the nearby cities that the lowered distance corruption isn't helpful. I usually build it in a productive city that isn't too far away, where the reduced corruption in that city will be helpful, and to try to get the nearby cities a little less corrupt.

On the main menu screen the version number is displayed in the bottom left corner.

There are not many times you have to move the capital, but lets say you start on a small island that is mostly desert. It may be useful to move your capital to a more productive island.

Also, builing your capital near a war zone will reduce culture flips from captured cities.

As you probably know, in PTW, the FP is a new center for distance and rank calculations. The rank of a city then is either the number of cities closer to the palace than that city, or the number of cities closer to the palace than that city is to the FP. It also mostly eliminates corruption in the FP city.

Due to the exploitation of the FP, it was changed in C3C. The FP still counts as a new center for distance corruption, but the palace is still the only center for rank corruption. However, the FP significantly increases the OCN, and even more in communism. Therefore, cities near a distant FP will still be mostly corrupt, since they still will have high rank corruption. The FP city also has a corruption cap of 20% (and can be reduced to 0% with a courthouse and police station).

Alexman's articles on corruption for PTW/vanilla and C3C can give more detail.
