Battle of Britain WWII Air War Scenario

Great scenario, Ambreville! I really enjoyed it. However at one point, Calais revolted and decided to join United Kingdom! This is quite funny actually. Any way this could be prevented, because it's not quite historically accurate?

I know about Calais. I can prevent it from falling to the Brits if I play the Germans... otherwise I guess we're back to the middle ages when Calais was part of the Kingdom of England.

I'll see if I can add some buildings to boost its Prestige.

@Larklight -- thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if I can do something about the strikes.

I made a few small edits to the gametext to improve the style of the game.

When you have suffered damage from bombers, I changed the text from 'a' to 'the'- you'll oly have one. When dealing with your raids, I left it unaltered; you wouldn't know how many granaries they had.

Similarly with bombing ships. Now the HMS Zulu is sunk, not a HMS Zulu.

I also changed the message shown when the enemies bombs fall astray to "The enemy's bombers are deliberately targetting innocent civilians!" :)

Small changes, but I think they help the style.

You're right. This is a good idea! :)

Thanks. My modding ability is limited to fiddling with xml and a few python tweeks, but text is soemthing I can do :) If there're any particular bits of text you'd like me to write, fluff or background, that can be done without expert knowledge, I'd be happy to give it ago.

Any progress on a 3.17 compatible version of this scenario, it looks real good.
From looking at this thread, it seems that the game is over before the US becomes a player, any way to fix that???

Sure. I'm not working on the mod right now, since I have no way of moving on to 3.17. I'd be glad to incorporate your text files, and release what I have so far. There have been a few minor additions since the last update.

No ETO on a 3.17 update, sorry.

The only way of fixing the "problem" would be to make the bombers a lot more expensive as well as vulnerable to interception. Not sure if that would be too much fun playing that way.

This scenario was a experiment to see if an "air mod" would be playable. I hadn't originally planned to go much past the Battle of Britain itself. The addition of the US arrival was more about figuring how to do these kinds of events than actually intending anyone to play that long.

I'm going through the event texts, seeing how many can be changed to fit the setting without requiring coding changes. Is it possible for any of the events in CIV4GameText_Events_BTS to occur, or are the texts era-specific?

Wow, that's incomprehensible. Ok, at the moment there are different texts for the same event; is the text to be displayed chosen at random, or dependant on era?

EDIT: don't worry, got it

Ok,

I've now changed the slave revolt event to one about strikes, and made it occur with liberal and regulated economies (and removed the food benefit from socialism to take into account this advantage.) Not sure how balanced this'll be.

The food-bandits are now the loss of farm labourers as they join the army.

The forge fire may be due to communist agitators.

There were a few other small changes.

Spoiler :
It seemed like monarchy was a lot more powerful than democracy, so I swapped the upkeeps (and moved democracy's foreign unhappiness to Socialism, as few German's stopped working for the vote, whereas British did strike for socialism. I wasn't sure why Police State increased commerce, so instead I gave each specialist +1:espionage:.

Damn. I forgot to back up one of the files, and now I'm getting an endless cycle of XML errors, and not even for bits I editted. May have to re-extract the origional file

Ok, here are the files I editted, minus the Civics one, which I think is too buggy to bother with.

Edit: Damn, not even that worked. Invalid file type. Ok, basically I've achieved less than nothing.

At some point I might do some civilopedia re-writes too

How do you open the map?

If I double click on the map file it asks what program I want to open it in.

And I don't see it in the map list for Bts

Dear Ambreville,

Thanks for all work involved in this mod. Only stumbled across it today, & was really looking forward to trying it out. Only I can't launch it! Am running BTS v.3.1.3.1; installed in correct folder in Programs folder. Tried 7 times to load it without success. The closest I got was on the 1st or 2nd try, when I got to choose Winnie, then CTD. Any ideas?

Ambreville ... at this point I had a brainwave, & copied “Battle of Britain.CivBeyondSwordWBSave” to the Public Maps folder in 'My Docs ... My Games ... BTS ...” ...AND? ... Mod launched! Got as far as the 3rd or 4th tip in setting-up screen ... & CTD!! Getting mightee frustrated 'bout now. Any ideas??:cry::eek:

Regards,

My girlfriend did some impressive service in the Royal Swedish Airforce. There are medals hanging on our wall to prove it. She also happens to have a fascination for The Battle of Britain and everything that happened during that period, and last October, while exploring London, we happened upon the Battle of Britain Monument on the North bank of the Thames. There were tears in her eyes.

What she does not seem to have a fascination for though, is Civilization and modding. I so wish that you could get this mod to fly (pun intended) in 3.19, so I could show her this and perhaps change her mind about Civ. Maybe do two-player games with her.

I saw you have DCM merged with this mod. Is it that merge that makes it unplayable in 3.19 perhaps? You should really try to make it workable in 3.19, because it seems like a real good addition to the Civ modding universe, it covers a great turning point in history of interest to so many and I think, after what I've heard you talk about mods and history so far, you are the perfect person to pull this one off.
