Everyone (sweeping statement) seems to have balance issues with battles?

Sure, every now and then the battles seem a bit impossible, but aslong as you observe the basics, like terrain attributes and movement fatigue etc etc, it all seems to balance out in the end.

I personally dont find many(if any) issues with combat.

...yet (edge my bets)

Right on.

For instance, someone complained because two galleys took out his battleship. How the heck did two galleys even get close to an unprotected battleship? What about bombardment? What about escort?

If their navy commanders have been lax in the past, perhaps the lessons of the U.S.S. Cole should make them tighten up a little-- if not for their country, then at least for the poor sailors under their command.

The U.S. just lost a B1 bomber fighting the primitive barbarian tribe called El Queda. Some would blame the Firaxis combat system. Some would say it is unfair, ruins the war, and makes it very hard to plan attacks.

(Hopefully, our guys got out safely.)
