Battleships Stuck in Lake After Passing through Canal

Hi,
I'm playing the GS DLC for the first time. I was at war with an AI player and happened to see an AI-constructed canal by a city that I was looking to take. The game let me send three battleships through the canal, which I used to bombard the city. I took the city, and now I cannot get them back out of the lake!

I don't understand why i was allowed to pass through one way, but (so far at least) not the other. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

IS the canal in any ways damaged/affected by sea level?
Alternatively if you deploy a crack team of 3 military engineers you can rush a canal in Ka-Kiwistahaw to get them out if something wacky is going on with sea levels. Which is really weird, because flooding would make the canal easier.

If I had to guess it would be that Ulannbaatar is occupied and you can't use the canal until you are out of the war and it's ceded to you. It won't let you swap that cities tiles with another city, so I bet it's that. Try saving it, ending the war, and then see if it lets you out. Kind of dumb since you were able to use it while it was activity hostile against you before you took it.

I don't think it works like that, if that was the case you could never be able to take a city with a ship.

It's likely the Canal is damaged somehow and the graphics haven't update.

I've had simular issues with canals in conquered cities and they weren't damaged. Don't think it's working properly.

Do you have the tech for canals? I'd have to actually check to see if you can get battleships without the canal tech, but I think you can.

It may a loyality issue?
If the city is close to rebel, i know the yields stop working and city stops producing. Maybe the canal is seen by the game as a yield?

I'm going with 'glitch'. See, the description for a canal is that it MUST have land on both sides. Since that one on the right side is flooded, perhaps the game is registering it as rendering the canal ineffective or unusable (since in such a situation you'd have been unable to place the canal, supposing that you wanted to start building it).

To confirm, save the game and try reloading an earlier auto-save (when you could still enter the canal). Verify if the tile was already flooded.

Or you could try placing barriers. If not already researched Computers, beeline towards it and prepare some military engineers. See if the problem will be fixed by getting the barriers up

Hello all, thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. After posting, I ended the war, but that didn't make any difference. I then started working on both a canal in Ka-Kiwistahaw and flood barriers in Ulaanbaatar to address the flooded tile just to the right of the canal... just to see if that made a difference. I didn't have a chance to complete either before needing to take a break. After saving, closing, and reloading today, I was able to move all three ships out of the lake. Truly bizarre, and I can only conclude it was a glitch resolved by reloading?

It was a good while back but I seem to remember that that also worked for me. Didn't pay too much attention to it then because I didn't have any ships stuck.

Just had this happen again, fixed with reloading. Definitely a bug/glitch.
