Which cheezy late 70s/early 80s scifi series was the better one?

Tough one. . . I liked both. But I remember Buck Rogers more than I do Battlestar. . .but I liked the premise of Battlestar more than Buck Rogers.

Funny. . . one sucked when it got to earth, the other sucked when it left it.

We love Wilma Dearing!

I have a very vague memory of Buck; none of the other one. The books of Buck were good.

We have a emoticon here that seems to be based on the robots from Battlestar (what were they called?):scan: so I`ll vote for that.

I always prefered Duck Dogers to Buck Rogers:)

Oh! The dilemma!

I see that midget boy robot in hot, goose-stepping pursuit of some midget girl robot, who jerks coyly away from him fast as her hydraulic legs convey her. He calling, "Hubba-hubba!"; she tweeting, "Bidie-bidie!".

Then I see the chrome-plated head of an infernal Cyclon, doomed to watch the same volley of a dull "Pong" game repeating on its visor for all eternity. It speaks in a ratchet gargle of oven cleaner and hair dryer at low setting, "By your command."

 I always wanted a cyclon of my own.

Wilma Dearing was an important part of my emotional development as a child  . Her and Servalan from Blakes 7. Probably explains a few things :mischief:

Ditto on Wilma, zippy. And Princess Ardela, too.

But that was centons ago. And you watch BG now, and it has a certain epic, beleaguered quality. But Buck? Faldercarb! All of the stupid robot noises, and Wilma's so thin and whiny, and Buck's just a goddamn embarrassment to the 21st Century. Watch it now, and you'll see that as TV, Buck Rogers is only fit for a daggot.

The test is, can you name more than three standout episodes of either series?

To me, Buck Rogers passes that test: the Cave of the Attavars episode with Jack Palance and the guy who could take off his head, the Pangor episode where Buck turns into a centaur (I disagree that Buck turned crappy when he joined the crew of the searcher - on the contrary, Wilma went from blonde to black hair and it was niiiiice), the future vampire episode where an evil alien sucked souls and a white plastic triangle had inexplicably replaced the crucifix, well okay I can't name a fourth, but compare Galactica: fire on the Galactica, sure, maybe the one with the Clones, but what else have you got?

I vote "neither." They both equally sucked. :D
Can I vote as to which one sucked the least? Which one showed bad acting, poor writing, and insulted the intelligence of the viewer less than the other? That's hard. I think PresidentMike described the situation quite well. I can't decide which one of these loser shows was least obnoxious.

Battlestar, just because Blizzard entertainment spoofed it in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness.

God I love Elven Archers...

Both were cheese in regular episodes, but the pilot for Galactica was actually pretty good, so it gets my vote. Neither were very good at establishing a complex setting like Star Trek or Babylon 5 were eventually able to do. They were old school, episodic shows, with writers making up the mythology in grand, clumsy brush strokes.

Galactica: 1980 just got worse and worse and cheaper and cheaper as the show progressed (much like "V: the Series",) but the Starbuck flashback episode was pretty good.

The Searcher season of Buck Rogers had some creepy episodes, especially the one where the crew had visions of their doom and that vampire episode.

My biggest problem w/ Roger's is that Tweaky the robot looked like a walking penis-man, which was disturbing and inappropriate for my young eyes.

They both had hot women stars, but I would have to give the edge in that department to Galactica for multiple hot recurring roles, wheras most of thoses on Buck were one time guest stars, of which Galatica also had plenty.

Ah. . . V. . . what a great miniseries! The show wasn't quite as good. . .I spent many a day re-reading the first two books.

I've often wondered what would happen if Captain Kirk and the Enterprise were thrown back in time right around the time the V invasion happened. . . .
