Battletech Mod previews

Appreciate the thought Sword, but while Perniks and Kinboats are beauts, the BTech aerospace stuff is pretty specific in design, and we'll pretty well be sticking with the standard unit designs. Thanks tho )

I haven't seen any future units on CDG from Riptide, other than the ones for the Battetech Mod. From what I've seen, I'm very impressed by.

Ripptide's stuff is always good.

Just trying to help Riptide. It has just occured to me that thats the first time you've responded to one of my messages...and I thought you didn't like me or something like Wyrmshadow... :mischief:

Sword, was that directed at me? If anything, I do my best to be utterly even-handed; have tried to pour water on some flame wars; and hold nothing against you whatsoever. BTW I do happen to like Wyrmshadow, but that doesn't mean I dislike anyone else because he might. As a matter of fact, the only posters I've ever found objectionable no longer seem to post in these parts ... :mischief:

Independently Yours,

Oz

And sorry if you thought that of me Sword, I was pretty sure I had responded to any posts from you (I try fo the most part to at least respond to any posts directed towards me), if I havn't believe me it wasn't intentional and I apologize if it appeared so.

Wasn't talking about you Ozy, I was talking about Riptide....so relax my comrade.

Thanks for clarifying that. Thankyou for sticking up for me after Wyrm went after me on CDG(Your a moderator there?). Quite the opposite of Shadow. Thankyou Riptide.

How long have you been working on the Battletech mod? I read a post on CDG that was dated some time in 2002. Is this a massive mod thats sort of like a game onto itself?

NP Sword, and yes, I was a junior mod over at CDG but I resigned from the staff there a little while ago. And yep, the mod has been being worked on for quite a while now, not so much because its so big (although it will have nothing but custom units, completely rebuilt tech tree, all new wonders etc) but also because I tended to get distracted by other stuff too so that slowed the process down :)

So much for keeping the updates...up to date )
Added preview for Hunter Light Support tank, wheeled APC, Infantry WIPs and Laser infantry, GOL-4S Goliath mech, and the Goody hut, colony, outpost and radar tower graphics.

So, how does it feel to have legions of Civ fans salivating in anticipation of these units' release? ;)

this is looking great! few questions: are you planning on adding any other civs? And what are your plans for battle suits/armor (however it is said now)? and finally are you still taking suggestions for units?

"...are you planning on adding any other civs?"- for the initial "epic game" release, there will be a total of 12 civs. But the intent is that after that we'd like to build a library of resources (leaderheads, units, etc) for anyone else that wants to build a BTech scenario or mod as well. We also have some plans to build several scenarios based specifically around certain BTech battles and storylines

"And what are your plans for battle suits/armor (however it is said now)?" - right now I only have an elemental suit for true battle armour. Eventually we'd like to add some of the other types, both Clan and IS

"and finally are you still taking suggestions for units?" - Sure. The initial release will probably be based around approx 30-35 mechs, 8-10 ground combat,6-8 infantry, 5-6 aerospace and maybe about 6-8 "support" units (workers, settlers etc) but we also have meshes for about 40-50 more units, and more coming or being made all the time. For myself, I intend to try to make all the new Project Phoenix "Reseen" versions of the Unseen mechs, like the GOL-4S and LCT-5M. And we've also had some requests already over at CBT

Do you want mech suggestions? It seems to me that you're focusing on more later mechs and not some earlier ones. I can think of some other mechs to add, if it's okay with you. Also, there's got to be somewhere where it talks about BattleTech naval forces...

BTW, are dropships going to be used, or will there be a dropship port improvement that works like an airport?

I'm still looking forward to this!

Is there going to be a specific time period? I noticed you include both the Lyran Commonwealth AND Federated Suns as civs, but you also include the clans? I think that the LC and FS merged (Federated Commonwealth) before the clan invasion, but it has been a long time... if you have the LC and FS, does that mean you are going to have the 'real' Clan Wolf before Phelan Kell screwed it all up?

The Dire Wolf (ahem, Daishi) looks far too skinny for a 100 ton assault mech, in my opinion...

How do you plan to implement jump jets? Some 'Mechs (Spider, Urbanmech) rely a lot on jump jets for their mobility. (I could make suggestions but I would like to hear what you think first.)

The ratings, offense and defense, do you plan to base offense on firepower, and defense on firepower AND armor? Will the 'Mech's speed factor into it at all? As an example, the Mad Dog (IS name Vulture) has an impressive array of weaponry (if I recall correctly, something like 100 points of damage assuming they all hit), but only 160 points of armor. Would it thusly have a high attack and lower defense? Will the Mad Dog, like the Catapult, be able to bombard with their LRMs?

In my opinion, the Atlas looks... weird, like it is made of legos, but that might just be me...

I only ask so many questions because I am so interested. :) There are so many possibilities for this... starting at the invention of Battlemechs, moving through the Star League era, and the Succession Wars...

Sorry for the delay in responding Polaris. But before I try to answer some of the questions, the intent will be to release a "base" epic game, with leaderheads, tech tree etc, and we'll also be building a BT unit library. The initial mod will probably have around 20 mechs, 8-10 ground combat units, 5-6 infantry units, and about 8-10 aerospace. But we have a ton of other meshes that will (eventually) be made as units so that others who may be interested can make specific scenarios based on battles, marches or storylines. So with that in mind...

1. There will be a specific time frame, we're just still pounding that out. We're kind of looking at the initial invasions of the Clan's into IS space, but that may change. Peter Smith from ClassicBattletech is mainly working on that as my knowledge of BT "history" is horribly out of touch.

2. Yep, its one (of several) being rebuilt.

3. There are several things like jump jets, multiple weapons systems (ie long range/short range mixes) that unfortunately are going to be hard or impossible to do properly in Civ. So it's quite likely they won't play a big factor, possibly an increase in terrain mobility.

4. Yep, specific units will be strictly bombard (Catapult) while others will probably have a combination. Kal El will be doing most of the balancing for the units.

5. See 2 ;)

And keep the ideas in mind, once we get the library up I'm sure some other scens would a great idea

And yep Mr Will, dropships will be used, primarily as transport (1-2 IS, 1-2 Clan types). As to mech requests, sure. Won't make promises but we can always look at it.
