If you have never beaten deity and you have the Spain/Inca DLC...

1. Save the Isabella file I posted
View attachment Isabella_0000 BC-4000.Civ5Save

2. Explore North (map is archipeligo)

3. Win the Spanish lottery with Barrier Reef tile 1.

4. Buy a settler and plant on the ivory next to the reef.

5. Buy the reef tile 1 to win the Spanish lottery again with Reef tile 2.

6. Buy reef tile 2. Each reef tile will give you 4 science, 4 food, 2 hammers, 2 gold!!! That is 8 science, 8 food, 4 hammers, 4 gold to start in your second city!!! :goodjob:

I bought a worker for each city and built the Great Library. I also went full tradition for growth (cuz workers and settler were instant) built the oracle, and then went left side of commerce to get 3 extra hammers per coastal city (which will be all of them.)

I got Hagia Sophia, Porc Tower, went to Ren. era super quick.

I am sure there are multiple paths with a 1000 gold/ +8 extra science start... deity advantages seemed to vanish quickly... WARNING this game is quick speed.

...I admit... this kind of start is lotsa CHEEZE!!!!!! :p

nice. that is definitely a start to keep in the save file.

i just rage-quit a deity game with babylon with a similarly nice start (for Babs anyway). started on standard, continents, low sea level, arid, strategic balance (a mix ive never tried before).

i actually wanted to do an archer rush kind of game with them and on turn 2 I got free archery (woot!). turn 5 a scout. turn 7 20 culture. turn 8 liberty opener. turn 13 monument. turn 14 free worker.

tech order pottery, mining (started with gems and gold and timing mining with my free worker was nice), writing, bronze, GS bulbed to iron. when i did that i had a 6 iron in my borders. this was starting to really look great. i met Askia, Wu Z, Alex, and Genghis.

turn 16 - DoW from Askia. I have no idea why. i hadnt built any wonders and only had 1 archer and about to rush buy another. okay, its happened before. no big deal. turn 21 he has 9 units including chariot archers at my borders and i have 2 bowman (scout and warrior out scouting). i held off til turn 42 until i lost. i had a defensive spot behind a river and i was on a hill.

i restarted from the autosave to try it again. same thing except after the monument i went straight archers. he declared on turn 19 and around 25 had those 9 units on me. this time i have 5 archers and my warrior. i held off until turn 50 or so when his second wave of chariot archers this time with more archers and warriors came. i lost 3 of my archers but replaced them so i still have 5 archers and 1 warrior and he had 10+ units now.

that start was too good as i wanted free archery anyway. so i proceeded to replay it 3 more times and in every game he DoWs before turn 25 and takes me out before turn 60 and i have no idea how not to have that happen. i definitely didnt do anything to trigger it other than being the only civ that didnt start with 2 settlers. china and khan were both very close too. i tried skipping altogether going for pottery and the free bulb. i tried building nothing but archers even skipping the monument (big mistake since i needed a few early policies). i tried going honor instead of liberty and that didnt work.

it's like the game intentionally said, "here's an awesome start, and im gonna ruin it for you." grrrr.

btw, did you get a science vic? im guessing you did with the barriers but it was so powerful it could have gone lots of directions. i generally hope for a cerro or el dorado start for my cheese.

I didn't finish the game yet - I played around with Spain to find interesting starts. On that kind of map I do a frigate rush, esp 'couse I didn't pick a full sized map so it would be even quicker.

Hammer - Do you have a save file for the start of that Babylon game? It sounds like an interesting challenge. It reminds me a bit of Deity Challenge 4 (search for the thread in the Strategy section, probably about 9 months ago), where a supercharged Napoleon DoWs very early, followed by Russia and/or Japan who are also close. Several people were able to get past the initial DoWs, but many (including myself) failed miserably in multiple attempts. Although frustrating, I enjoy this type of challenge. For some reason Askia is either a beast early (I have had him steamroll me before) or a pushover.
