So, I am as sick as a dog -- whatever that means -- and when I was thinking about it today, someone started telling a story about how they got drunk the other night and I thought, I feel trashed, so I might as well be.

Of course, I have to wonder how alcohol consumption would impact illness, such as the common cold. Anyone ever done it before? Am I going to die? LOL.

Oh, and...one beer down!

I'm no medical professional, but I've done this myself on occasion, so here goes:

It shouldn't be a major problem, but for the Love of Christ don't take aspirins (or paracetamol) while youre drinking (you might since you've got the flu, and a bunch of flu relievers contain those as active ingredients). Ibuprofen is ok though (the active ingredient of e.g. Advil)

Personally, my favorite drink when I've got the flu is whiskey or cognac, mixed into something really hot, like tea or coffee. Beer is fizzy so it generally hurts my throat when I've got a sore throat...

I don't think 4-6 beers should be deadly, but I wouldn't get drunk as as a skunk (12+ beers).

Well I'm pretty sure alcohol lowers immunity.

Also, excessive drinking is generally a sign of low self-esteem and those with low-self-esteem probably tend to get sick more (probably have higher levels of cortisol, lower levels of HGH, etc.).

Do you have sources on the low self-esteem, cortisol, HGH thing? Sounds interesting...

Rum works fine for me, but that is with tooth aches. I like what Narz said, if only he could back it up

Actually, I hardly ever get sick. I have to wonder why I did, this time. I can count the number of times that I've been sick on one hand -- four. Meh, I already got the beer and I am feeling much better with two down, one after another, in quick succession!

Two beers down the gullet!

FYI, John, paracetamol is known as acetaminophen (Tylenol) here. And it's kinda hard on the liver and shouldn't be mixed too thoroughly with alcohol.

Oh great, now you tell me.

3 down!

EDIT: The liver is just going to have to take one for the team, tonight. I downed 1,000 Mg of Acetomi...Acet..whatever...that stuff about three or four hours ago, so I think I'm fine.

Just hang in there, John, we can't afford to lose you. ;)

Beer only helps in that it helps you sleep. When I have a common cold I take something that will knock me out like Theraflu or Alka-selzter cold tablets.

It isnt the alcohol that beats the cold...its the rest you get.

I am still waiting for my pizza.

Well, three beers into it and I feel ten times better than I did before. I am sure that it is all just an illusion, but I'll take that illusion over the reality of being sick, any day.

Hey....you know what? I am drinking to escape reality, just like all of those guilt-trippers always tell you.

WOO-HOO! I'm drinking to escape reality!!! This calls for a drink!

Well, Pizza always helps battling a cold.

Nothing better than eating food you love when you're sick. :)

Dude, take it easy. It's really no joke about paracetamol and alcohol. If I were you I'd stop drinking beer and have some juice or lemonade with that pizza, watch a movie and go to sleep.

Finish the rest of the beer tomorrow or some time when you haven't taken paracetamol.

Ain't that the truth! :goodjob:

You're fine. Just don't make a habit of it like I did!

Y'know, posting when drunk is usually not a good idea :)
