I've been playing only for a short time. I play at Chiefain level, on a huge world with a peaceful civ. Here are some questions I'd really appreciate in my quest for playing peacefully.

1. What do you recommend for starting productions in first cities?
(warrior/warrior/temple/settler..etc)

2. Once I get several cities going I'd like to automate using the governors window....is this advisable....and what settings?

3. I've noticed that when I build a road to a resource, build a colony and leave a military unit there to protect it....another civ comes along and build a city next to it...then tells me to remove my military unit. I hate when that happens!! What am I doing wrong?

Any help is greatly appreciated....thanks!!!!

1) Warriors too explore or scouts if your expansionest.
(warrior{s)/barracks/temple/settler/spearmen

2) Personally i hardly ever use the governor untill the modern ages so really its up to you....

3) Its because now that they have a city there your in there land. A colony just lets you use the resource but without your culture around it the computer can easily come and take it. Don't waste workers building colonies, instead settle around the stuff you want, or go to war if you really want it bad enough.

1) Depends on if you have barbarians in the game or not...

wo/barbs: Spearman/setler/warrior/spearman/setler...

w/barbs: Spearman/spearman/setler/spearman/setler...

2) Since you are a newbie yes. Citizen moods.

3) Build a city of your own nearby before the Ai or go to war with them and take their city.

1. Read this: Improving Your Opening Play Skills written by Cracker in the CFC War Academy.

2. No, it's not advisable. If you're serious about moving up the skill levels, you'll have to micromanage so you might as well start now. [GoD]Toxic's suggestion isn't bad advice, but at some point the Governor becomes a hindrance.

3. Unless you're on a large/huge map and know you're a long way from another civ, don't build colonies unless you plan to build a city to cover the resource ASAP. Even then, it wastes a worker. Better to build the city right away.

Have fun!
