There is one issue I been having with c2c from version to version, how half resources never exist , couple times there was no gunpowder ( or how that one is called in game ( needed for everything that uses guns )) that game was as strange as stupid eventually you get into latter eras where you skip gunpowder but having melee units for so long was interesting

now i cant remember when i had map where stone existed, i am surethere are other examples, maybe not as game impacting as those 2

i dont want equally balanced resources i just want to have map where every resource is present more than once ( would be silly if one civ gets access to stone ( free wonders qq )

i usually play different map types, so icant say that one map generator is flawed and another is fine, i didnt try v24 yet so cant be certain,

was just wondering if anyone else had similar experiences, and which map types you prefer

The resource spawning is controlled entirely in the BonusInfos XML. The mapscripts only generate the terrain and features. That said, I've never had an issue with PerfectMongoose_310 (PW3 for short), so try that one.

I usually play with PerfectMongoose as well - takes a long time to generate the map but I've found it's worth it.

Not entirely correct. The rules are defined in the XML, but some map scripts like PW3 have their own implementation of the algorithm that tries to execute that rules.
Unfortunately many of the people who entered bonus XML did not fully understand what the different rules mean and made them very hard for the algorithms to place properly.
PW2 and 3 (they use a very similar algorithm) try to place emergency occurances of the bonuses in those cases, reducing the rules that they obey step by step.

DancingHoskuld recently generated a lot of maps while he went through the bonus XML and updated the rules. So hopefully the occurance of some bonuses not being placed will be a lot rarer.

I'm using PerfectWorld2f as per this comment:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=10818317&postcount=1

I have yet to find anyone outside of that thread using it

Haven't really reached ocean-faring vessels in any game, so can't comment on the whole maps it generates, but I always love the piece of land I end up with.

So hopefully the occurance of some bonuses not being placed will be a lot rarer.

Calling resources "bonuses" - the sign of the xml modder ;)

I am still not fully happy with what I have done but I have made them more consistent removing food, luxury and other resources from the strategic line and grouping most of the strategic resources together. As far as I know most map scripts try and make sure that strategic always occur on a map.

On a related note, I'd love to see the Totestra fork of PW2 in C2C, it looks like a very good mapscript. I know though that AIAndy is very busy though, so I understand if this doesn't happen for a while.

Apparently, Totestra is compatible with C2C. From what I understand, this mapscript just modifies the PW2 map script so, since PW2 has already been modified for C2C, Totestra should work.

You'd still have to make the same kind of changes as the transfer from the original PW2 script to the C2C version (mainly involving the new terrains and features).

From what I understand, Totestra works like a patch for PW2, so if PW2 works for C2C, Totestra does as well. Also, the second post states that the mapscript is compatible with C2C.

while pm3 brings back half resources i havent seen in ages, it have no settings for what kinda map i prefer, and worst starting locations ever, i restart game like 10 times, and not once i had properly generated spawning locations...

@AIAndy, currently we change the coastal and ocean terrains after the placement of sea features, resources and improvements. This means that I need to define the latitude on the feature, resources and improvements and remember to just say TERRAIN_OCEAN or TERRAIN_COAST as valid terrains. We need to change this I think, so please add it to your ever growing list of things to do.:mischief: I'll see if I can get time to do some also. ;)

It only has two sea terrains C2C has 6, and that is just a start of why even if it is compatible with pw2 it is not compatible with c2c. It will need to be converted. ;)

If that's the case, someone should contact the creator of Totestra and inform him that it is incompatible because he has C2C listed as a compatible mod.
