Maybe they're keeping a few surprises. :mischief:

One can only hope...

The teambased multiplayergames sounds like a lot of fun.

Im going to have to say that mulitplyer is is the greatest Civ upgrade, I just can't wait to play it....now I can actually play people who play like I want the AI to play.....well.

- Moddability. OMG this game seems to be a modders dream when it comes to these games.
- The Working MP Experience sounds awesome.
- The whole new Combat system that promotes Combined arms and can make each unit pretty unique.
- The civics system, cant believe this wasnt in Civ3 in any form. They already had it sorta in Alpha centauri.
- The upgraded Culture system seems nice.
- The Addition of Religion is pretty nice. Especially diplomacy-wise.
- Made expansionism harder, and made AI respect borders with agreements.
- The graphics and the new interface in the game. I like it, hopefully the terrain will feel more alive.

Theres probably more. But I like what I hear about the new gameplay. Sounds like a really great game.

Pretty much my list to, and in that order. New graphics are good, but not the best.. Unless you're in your early/mid teens and all you care about is "flash and sparkle".. :D Game play rules for me.

I really like the new role the UN got. But then again I like most of the improvements. A little fault must be how the borders are drawn...

No more revolts so no need to keep you cities small to avoid them. This means that one of the advantages of ICS is gone, or at least reduced, and one of the most annoying elements of city managemnet with it.

Anyone know if the pop 6 pop 12 limit is removed as well?

I'd say yes - but unless you build an aqueduct or are on a river, it'll be hard to grow beyond size 6 anyway because cities get more unhealthy the bigger they get. So its really still there - so no.

I'd say Lions with Skull banners eating stuff and Lioning around all over the place exposing nit pickers.

Though the game is not out yet, I'm liking a lot of what I've been reading about:

  • Civs can no longer just walk into your own territory without having to declare war upon you first (a beef that I had with Civ3); now I'm no longer the only one who respects borders.
  • Unit promotions are more than just your standard bump-up in the "lives" graph.
  • Animals in addition to barbs and enemy civ units in the Ancient Age.
  • Having certain resources (saltpeter) or researching specific techs (map making) is no longer a requirement for having certain units (musketmen, galleys).
  • If what I glimpsed is true, when creating your own map, you no longer have to slowly build up your world tile by tile if you don't want to; a bitmap converter allows you to import a simple bitmap outline of your world that you should be able to refine as needed within the map editor.

The biggest improvement is -I hope- the combat system. As this was my big annoyance with CIV3: too much attention had to be paid to ordering individual units. The game was called 'civilization' but it was mainly about 'war'.

So if the grouped fighting really works (and doesn't end up in endless reshuffling of units in order to get the best groups) I am really happy!
