If i wanted to play these mods with a compatible realistic earth map, basically for correct starting locations what would be recommended?

"[TSL] Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack" is by far the best IMO with lots of options for replayability.

Otherwise I really like Sven's Europe, but he's way to generous on resources & his Indea update seems very promising. But have not seen any news for quite long so no sure if that's gonna happen.

I think the only thing that might overlapp is resource placing script, but I'm really not an expert.
I have not noticed any big problems atleast.

In my games with YAEMP the civ's starting positions are mixed up. Like Rome starting in north america, along with Dido. :-)

I'm using Vens G+K Standard Earth Map Pack at the moment, it's a scenario so not much customization but it's perfectly compatible. The american civilizations are too strong usually due to all the space, raging barb helps a bit tho.

YNAEMP isn't working properly with GEM last I tried.

what's the problem exactly when using GEM and YnAEMP ?

I haven't tried with GEM 1.13 but with the previous version (CivUp is working ok), I either couldn't get true start location to work and/or would barely get any resources. Probably the resources scripts? When I disabled GEM it worked fine.

With the latest GEM:

Standard Codiform Earth, starting as England, TSL city states, the resource placement option checked.

I started at songhai starting position, no resources in sight (but one ancient ruin).

what's the problem exactly when using GEM and YnAEMP ?

I tried again with YnAEMP and GEM with the latest patch of both and I have the same problem, random start and no resources. When I disable GEM but keep CivUp, it's working fine

Details:

England
Large Europe
Prince
Standard speed
Only TSL CS
Bosphorus Strait is a see
Use true geograpphic resource placement
Add Specific resources with players

I started in Brittany with no resources in sight.

Same start but with CivUp and not GEM, I started in the correct spot with resources nearby.

This map is quite good and works as long as you load the scenario, although the resource distribution obviously isn't balanced for GEM. I tried to merge GEM with YnAEMP - since Gedemon's maps are still the best quality out there, and the options are incredible - but didn't make any progress. :(

(Double posting so those interested notice that at least we've got a working map!)

I found that even the scenarios have an issue: The AI is set to Prince difficulty, when they need to be set to the new GEM difficulty.

Takes about thirty seconds to fix in the SDK. :) All that needs to be done then is to change the resource distribution to one more akin to GEM.

Does anyone have the specifics on how luxuries and bonus resources are placed?

Luxury and bonus resources? It's strange if those are a problem... GEM only changes strategic resource distribution. The others basically use unmodded game code.

I've just had a quick look at GEM files, the incompatibility with YnAEMP come from the replacement of MapGenerator.lua by both mod.

That's the entry point for YnAEMP custom civilization placement, it won't work without it.

For those wanting to use both mod, rename (or backup & delete) MapGenerator.lua from the "\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\G&K Enhanced Mod (v1.13.4) (v 1)\GEM\Terrain" folder, you'll lose the Strategic Balance option from GEM, but all the rest should work.

The MapGenerator file is not important for Gem, so I'll remove it from this mod to improve compatibility with YnAEMP. :)

I included that file to hide the Strategic Balance option from the advanced game setup, since that option is redundant with what's done in AssignStartingPlots for Gem. This is not a critical change - more like a safety feature to help people avoid doing something we shouldn't do anyway.

Hi Thal

MapGenerator.lua is still in your files for 1.14 Beta. Without deleting it, we still cannot get True Start Locations with YNAEMP.

Just noting this since your beta release notes mentioned improving compatibility with YNAEMP.
